Hello my Chloe might possibly have Panosteitis, going to the vet tomorrow to know for sure. After researching and researching what causes this disease high protein, calcium, phosphorous could possibly be one of them. I am sure that if it is Pano that the vet will try and give me one of there recommended foods (which i do not want) but if he thinks strongly that food could be the cause i am willing to change to a lower protein formula. Right now she is on Acana Wild Prairie, any feedback is welcome about the levels i should look for in a food that is a little lower on the protein, calcium, phosphorous scale. Or if anyone has experienced pano and what food worked best for this disease.

thanks! that helps alot

I've used Rimadil with Monty as well during his first year. He was on it at least three times with no problems. Please keep us posted about your vet visit. Sending doodle hugs to Chloe.

Sure hope you can get it figured out, hope she's not in too much pain. Good luck and keep us posted!

she is doing a lot better now pain wise, no whimpering anymore it broke my heart to hear, when i called the vet on tuesday morning about the crying (thought it was about the kennel cough at that time) they told me to just wait it out there was nothing i could do for her:(   so thank god shes not in as much pain as im beginning to think she was in

Update!!

Just got back from the vet, and he said its Pano. We are going to do x rays in 2 weeks just to be sure altough i am the one that asked for it. He doesnt seem worried it so that is good news i suppose.

And she is doing amazingly better barely even a limp. I asked him about changing food and such and he not only didnt push a vet brand on me but he didnt seem worried about the food shes on now being an issue. He gave me an intinfamatory for next time it pops up.

I'm glad to hear that at least you have a tentative diagnosis and a plan, and especially glad that the vet didn't blame food. Poor food, it gets blamed for just about everything, lol.

The best part though is that she doesn't seem to be having much pain. :)

yes no kidding eh!!   i am going to keep her on it for now, although she doesn't enjoy it as much as the Royal canin im guessing because maybe there was more fat in it so it was tastier? who knows!, i might try a different flavour next time and spice it up a little. But her poops are amazing on Acana hahaha so thats a bonus!

Who ever thought id be excited about poop!

You'll find that many DK'ers get excited about poop! LOL

I'm glad to hear that Chloe is doing better and that you have a diagnosis and action plan. Hopefully this is the one and only event!

I am glad you have information and that Your doodle probably has something she will overcome with age. I'm also happy to hear that she seems to be in little pain. Good news about the food too.

Hello Michelle, I wanted to know some details about Chloe, age etc.  It is believed that my Baxter has Panosteitis as well.  He started to show symptoms at age 7 months.  He limps with his right leg.  I had extensive x-rays done and this was the diagnosis from my vet.  He was put on an anti-inflamitory for a few weeks which didn't seem to help.  He is now going on 1 year and still has a slight limp, more prominent after he has been laying down but seems to walk if off after a while.  His diet is home made food of meat or chicken grains and veggies with a small amount of Wellness dog kibble (crunch factor!)  His vet has said it could last until he is two.  Since this thread is about 5 months old I wanted to see if Chloe has improved.  Thanks for you input.

Judie

hello! im sorry for the late reply, but yes Chloe is all better. Havent had any problems since. I hope Baxter is doing okay aswell!!

take care!

Thanks Michelle.  Actually, Baxter is going to the Orthopedic vet today.  The limping has not gone away and comparison x-rays taken 2 weeks ago to those taken 5 months ago do not show anything (which is a good thing).  No Pano and nothing that should cause the limp.  We are going to see if perhaps he has a torn ligament.

Thanks for your response

Judie
