Pedigree's and health test reports.

Hi everyone.I just received the pedigrees and health test results of my puppy to be's parents and ancestors.Its great my breeder sent them to me but i dont have a clue what im looking at or what to look out for.Any help would be greatly appreciated.

The health test should include at least good hips and rule out retinal problems, Von Willebrands. Maybe you could post the results? I can't remember all the things to be tested off hand.

The hips sound good. The PRA is for retinal problems and that's good. The fundus is the back of the eye and in people it's checked for various things. I'd guess they were checking for cataracts in the dogs. anyway, normal is good : ) You might be able to photograph the report and then post the photos. I've done this with old non digital photos to convert them to digital and post. But getting the vet to check it would be good too. Maybe some dogs are negative for von Willebrand's by parentage but I'm not sure.

No, I don't think they test for Addison's since it's complicated to do but they should eliminate all dogs from breeding lines who have had it. Thyroid they may test for. I don't think there are specific tests for sebaceous adenitis or most skin disorders as a predictive thing. There are many diseases a dog can develop and it would be impossible to test for some and prohibitively expensive to test for all even if it were feasible.

True if both parents were clear of vwd then the pups would be too.

If you haven't checked the online Doodle Pedigree database you may want to check there, to see if your pedigree matches up to those issued to others with common dogs in their pup's lineage. The web address is: http://doodledatabase.com . You must register with the site, in my experience the response time for approval access was pretty quick. I've received zero spam after providing them my email address. I believe the database is managed out of the UK, but returns worldwide results. You can also submit your dog's pedigree for inclusion in the database. Good luck.
