Jack has peed in the house a few times lately. Of course my first reaction is he has a bladder infection again but the last time he went though this phase, I had his urine checked and it was fine. I mean how often can I take him to the vet to get him checked when everything comes out fine?
Jack has been waking me up early morning to go potty, around 6 am, that is after letting him out at midnight. I go back to bed and the past few times I have woken up with a pee pile somewhere, today it was by my front door. Not the door he uses to go out to potty in, and as I was cleaning today, I found another pee spot in my bedroom.
What can be the cause of this??? Should I cut his water off at a certain time? He is two years old. He never used to pee in the house. Getting my carpets shampooed is not an option for me because of my lungs, and the high chance of mold growing. I can't afford wood floors just yet but pee on the carpet is totally not acceptable.. I am ready to recrate him but I want to see if there is something else I can do or another reason he is doing this...

It is warmer out, is the temperature in the house warmer causing him to drink more.
I too first thought, uh oh, a urinary tract infection....but you know Jackie better than me.
Hope it is just a bad day or two.
Bridget did this a couple of months ago (she was about 2 1/2) and it stopped as mysteriously as it started. I made sure to use Nature's Miracle to get the odor out of the carpet so she wouldn't have a new "favorite spot" but she hasn't done it again.
Did you change Jack's food or treats by chance? When we brought Bridget home as a puppy, our lab would graciously finish any food left in her bowl. He then started peeing in the house and after bringing him to the vet to make sure he didn't have a UTI, the vet asked about changes in food. Some puppy formulas can actually make adult dogs pee a tremendous amount. We ended up feeding them in separate rooms to make sure Cooper didn't eat Bridget's food.
Jennifer, if I recall correctly Jack has had some challenges to his kidney's in the past. When was the last time he had labs to check his kidney function? Is all okay there? Just a thought...hopefully nothing like that is going on and it is just a passing phase.
Oh, also, are you still watching your friend's baby? Could he be feeling possessive or territorial because of the baby in the house?
Hi Jen...
I'm on the same "wave length" as Ricki with this one...
Did you give a thought to the fact that you are now babysitting a 6-8 week old baby during the week?
I just had a thought that if this has been going on recently...maybe it has something to do with having a "little one" in the house...which up to this point has been "his and his alone"...lol...
It's a Big change for him and there might be a little bit of jealousy...or...some connected reason for the change in his behavior.
I know that he seems to be fine while the baby is there...etc...but...the time frame is interesting...and this just "might" have something to do with the baby now being in his domain??
It might not be this at all...But...it is something to look at...
Sometimes my Molly sleeps so soundly she pees in her sleep. Thank goodness she has only done this a few times BECAUSE she sleeps with us. I DO NOT LIKE THIS AT ALL>she came close to sleeping on the floor.
I think I am going to have to bring him in to get his urine checked, just to be sure. He has been licking himself quite a bit, plus he is close to being do for his kennel cough anyway.
I would say it was the baby, but this behavior has occurred before the baby was here. Jack is not a spiteful kind of dog, so it is hard for me to comprehend it. I literally stuck my nose all over the carpet today and I have thoroughly washed all areas. I am also going to keep his collar on him tonight, this way I will hear him jingle when he jumps off the bed.
If it is not a UTI, and he is just peeing in the house. I may consider cutting his water out at night first. I have always let him drink as much as he wants when he wants. I think after our last walk for the night, I will let him have a drink, then let him out to potty a few hours later.
If it is spite, and he is marking his area, how do I stop that? I don't think it is because well I don't want to think that about Jack, LOL but also like I said he has done this before but it has been at times when change happen such as me coming home from the hospital.
Thank you for your comments and suggestions!!
Hey Ronna, Thank you for the link I read it twice. I do not know if Jack is marking or not because, I think if he was marking, he would mark the babies stuff such as the playpen,, swing that sits low to the floor or his tummy time mat. He doesn't go near any of that.
The article sort of implied if they are making that it would most likely be on a new article, a visitors purse, or something like that. He has every chance in the world to lift his leg on the pack and play it is in our bedroom where I sleep at night. He peed last night not far from there but clearly far enough away that he didn't intend to mark that crib.
I have found in the past, I can leave Jack all day home alone and he will not potty but at night, when I am home, if I don't lock him in the bed room with me, I can wake up with a surprise. Sometimes it is poop, which the article said is very unlikely to be a marking.
I picked up his water now, as we just got home from our evening walk. I am so confused. It seems that I need to rule out his urine as a source of infection again, and then if that is ruled out. I don't know what to do.
I did not only clean the rugs super well, I ordered something called No More Icky Poo or something like that, Nature's Miracle has recently changed their ingredients and it is really equal to half strength or so I am told.
When he does pee in the house, it is always the same few spots. Obviously, I am not doing a good enough job getting the smell out. I actually moved the pack and play today to cover the area he peed on as they suggested.
I can not wait for Murphy and Jack to meet!!!! Thanks again for your suggestions and for that very helpful article. I am going to try to run Jack to the vet in the am before I go to work to get it checked.
