Can anyone tell me why a completely housebroken 14 month old doodle would start peeing in the house the last couple of days! Theres nothing new going on no changes, hes not sick ,just had him at the vet ,I am in total shock with this! Just wondering if anyone has went thru this!!!
The only thing I could possibly think of if nothing new in his life - puppy, baby, company, arguing - would be a UTI. If it continues I would get a urine sample and drop it at the vet. There is no reason for you to have to pay for a visit just to have some tests done - especially since he was just there
Keep us posted! Hope all is well very quickly!
Totally.... unmedically speaking...Could it be something outside that is preventing him from wanting to go in his usual spot???? It has rained so much here this weekend, that Tori won't even ask to go out... she hates the rain... LOVES the freezing cold snow tho' - never a problem getting her to go out to pee or poop then...But - I had to really coax her to go out, and only would poop once and I assume only when she couldn't hold it any more...
It could be Because when i let him out in my fenced yard he just stands at the gate and I know he didnt urinate I watched him then i take him to his spot and he just stands there doing nothing! then comes in and when you dont expect it he pees.Im going to call the vet in the morning!
I wonder if something scared him outside while peeing, and now he doesnt want to go in the yard. Like when you house trian a puppy, they start to pee in the house, you yell no and wisk them outisde and praise them. Maybe he was peeing outside and a noise scared him and now he associates peeing with a bad feeling. Have you tried retraining him to go outside, by using a treat when he finally goes outside. Walk by a telephone pole and he should pee on it, and givve him a treat.
Thats a good idea about giving him a treat like i use too I will try that ,I called my vet and Im dropping off a urine sample today I would rather it be a infection than to know he is going backwards sad but true,I will let you know when I know Thanks for your concern!!!!
Agree with Jane. I dropped off a urine sample once without calling ahead and it ended up sitting there in their fridge. They didn't even call me to ask what it was for. So I had to re-collect.
This is how I collect: I use a stainless steel soup ladle and first thing in the morning (when I KNOW my dog needs to pee) I go out with the dog and follow closely ready to swoop that ladle under the peeing doggy. Then I pour the contents into the sterile container from the vet's office, seal it, bag it in a zip lock (just in case) and keep take it in right away (well AFTER I've rinsed, washed and sterilized my ladle).
I did get the sample alright, and the vet said it looked ok,but hes sending it out to the lab anyway! I Almost wish it was a bladder infection so I have a reason for this unusal behavior!! Sad but true!!! I dont no why such a perfect dog would be doing this .Theres nothing new, same food,Hmmmmm Thanks for your idea!!!!
I would take a urine sample to the vet...I had this once, and our dog was about 3 yrs old, and never and I mean never had an accident once he was trained, and all of the suddeen he was peeing in the house, I was freaking, since he was not a luttle dog, I could not get him to pee in the cup, so the vet got some urine and he did a few test s and sure enough he had an urinary infection, some antibiotics and he was just fine...
