This week Kali had two pee accidents on the rug this week which is really weird for her. Before this the only accident she'd had in about 6 months was when we brought her home from being spayed. Normally when she needs to go to the bathroom she goes and rings the "pee bell" at our front door. We took her to the vet to check for any signs of a UTI or kidney problems but her urinalysis came back normal. Does anyone have any thoughts? She's been going through a bit of a bratty phase but it didn't seem like her accidents were on purpose. She's 10 months old now. Any suggestions or thoughts would be helpful. Thanks!
I know how frustrating this situation is. Koda took forever to be completely house broken. He had random accidents until he was about a year old - maybe even a little older. They were sometimes months apart. I moved a lot during this time (between college, home and a friend's house for the summer) so I thought that the fact that he wasn't settled completely was the cause for the accidents. Have you changed anything in your house or anything in Kali's normal routine? I know dogs are really sensitive to changes. Is it getting cold in your area? Maybe that has something to do with it, being that Kali is so young and hasn't gotten used to the seasonal temperature changes. Some dogs just don't like the cold or the rain or whatever. I don't know if I helped at all, just thought I would share some of my experience since Koda seemed to make sure I had plenty of practice with accidents! Koda is fully housebroken now and has been for a while :). I hope I helped in some way! Good luck and just give Kali time. They all get it eventually when they decide they are ready haha.
We had problems with UTI's. I think the first time she was checked, I took her to the vet too early and they didn't get a good catch. When is continued and she would squat with no success, she was checked again. She spent 4 weeks on Clavimox and that did the trick. If she squats and no pee comes out or just drips, or when she goes seems to be painful, I'd take her back to the vet. Good Luck!
Was it a lot of pee or a little pee? Maybe Kali was marking... my female dog marks all the time (but thankfully only outdoors). Do you have other pets that Kali might be "competing" with? Or might she have been scared about something?
Be sure to clean up the spots to remove the urine odor completely, or she may go there again.
It was two different spots, the first time was in the evening and the second time was late afternoon. It seemed to be quite a lot of pee. I don't think she'd be trying to "compete" with either of the cats, they all get along pretty well. Once in a while when I have a cat on my lap she agitates for attention, but she knows if she sits quietly beside me I'll scratch them both. The only thing I could think of is one of our two cats was hit by a car about 6 weeks ago. He had to have one of his hind legs amputated and once he was feeling better after the accident he started to get very frustrated about being kept inside so he started peeing all over the place. I think we managed to clean up all the pee but it is possible we missed a little. He's just been allowed outside in the last few weeks so if we did miss some spots it would have been fairly fresh. Kali was a little stressed out about him being sick at first but he's been just as happy as before since he's been let out and she seems pretty used to him being a tripod now.
Awww, poor kitty!!! I hope he's feeling better and adjusting to his new situation. Maybe Kali found some of his "pee spots" and thought it was OK to urinate there? A dog's sense of smell is a 1000 times better than ours.
