peeing the bed

i know this topic is vague and applies to all dogs but does anyone have a problem with their dogs peeing the bed.my labradoodle is a year and a half old and every month or so she pees the bed.even if shes been outside right before bed time.she never makes a mistake in the house when shes awake.is it a medical problem or.....can anyone help with this.thanks.jared.

The fact that it's only once a month is interesting...if she had a UTI it would be more frequent. Did you ever ask your Vet about it?

Dominance issues?????? We had a male cat once that insisted on peeing on my husbands side of the bed - usually his pillow. Can you guess I had him before I got married? My doodle, Ned peed on the bed once as a pup, and he was definitely telling my mom's dog who was boss! (that's the short version)

The only time this has happened with my dogs was when Calla had a urinary tract infection. I'd guess if her Rem sleep is deep enough, your labradoodle could urinate when sleeping.

I'm actually having a housebreaking issue with my doodle! She knows it's wrong (she hides to do it) but I can't seem to make her stop, and she won't go on the potty pad! She'll go outside for hours but not pee, then come inside to pee. It's horrible.

I don't know what could make your dog pee in her sleep, though! Maybe she has weak bladder muscles?

I doubt this has anything to do with housebreaking issues. Often, spayed females have this problem due to scar tissue (my poodle had this) and they will leak urine while sleeping. You probably should discuss this with your vet and have her examined. Usually, the treatment is Proin, which is the same drug as Dexatrim(!) I have a friend with a 2 1/2 year-old poodle who was doing the same thing and she's now on the medication, which by the way, you can get online.
