Sorry to post a new thread so soon after my other thread about Nala, but I am very excited to have a medium in which to discuss my fantastic dog(s)!
Locally, I have brought Sprocket (and now Nala) to the popular dog beach down the street and (more recently) to the designated dog park in the neighboring town. At these areas, I have had plenty of time to socialize with other dog people. It might just be me, but I seem to notice a certain amount of resentment to Doodles. Half the people I meet are into their AKC breeds, while the other half are only into shelter dogs. The latter group is more accepting, but the former group definitely seems to have a prejudice against Doodles. 50 years from now, it wont matter, but it reminds me very much of the Nouveau Riche / Old Money friction. The snubbing has even pushed me to want to speak up to the effect of “sorry my dog doesn’t have 200 years of annoying yipping to be proud of”. I’ve bit my tongue, because maybe it is just me with an odd Napoleonic dog breed complex. Does anyone else feel this way?
There are definitely some people out there who think the worst of purposely bred mixes...but usually these people don't know enough!
We had an interesting discussion on this a few months ago:
Yes, it is sad how some people can be. I have not had this issue yet myself but I know others have. As I have said before, there are MANY choices in life we all make - the type of dog we have is just one more to add to the list. Regardless I think every dog owner in the world is wonderful for caring for an animal...what type of animal we choose should NOT matter. Everyone has their reasons for choosing how they have. As everything in life..people should THINK before they speak. There is always a reason and usually a GREAT story on why we chose a DOODLE!!!
