We have stayed with Vacation Rental Pros in Palm Coast, FL on Cinnamon Beach for the past 2 years. Many of the condominum units are pet friendly and both that we've stayed in have been extremely nice. If you are looking to get away to Florida with your doodle then this would be a great place to consider. It's just 30 minutes south of St. Augustine and about an hour north of Daytona. There are many nice amenities in the rental units, there are 2 resort like swimming pools, the condos are located on a golf course and the best part is that you are staying right on the beach with your doodle!
I have no affiliation with this company but wanted to pass on a good thing to fellow doodle owners. I know nice dog friendly accomodations can be difficult to find!
I just saw this post (what a good idea!) and I thought I would be helpful to add some of my own experience. I recently rented a condo in the Stoney Brook Golf Community in Estero, FL (which is literally right next to Fort Myers, FL). I rented long term but there are plenty of vacation rentals there also. Many of the condos are pet friendly and the area is wonderful to have a dog in. There are plenty of nice places to take long walks within the community and the area surrounding the condo is filled with restaurants with outdoor seating (many allow dogs) and plenty of shopping (most are pet friendly - there is even one outlet center with doggy water fountains). There is also a plethora of beautiful beaches including a DOG BEACH! The dog beach is an off leash park and truly a unique and fun place to bring your dog. Also, Sanibel Island (known for shelling and beautiful beaches) is not far (less than an hour) away and many of those beaches allow dogs on leashes.
I lived in that area while attending college and I have to say, I was EXTREMELY sad to leave. I highly recommend it. I have no affiliation with Stoney Brook or anything, but I just thought I would suggest it being that I loved being in the area so much with my doodle. I hope it can help someone!
Thanks for the info. My DH and I are planning on snowbirding to Florida when I retire and I have been searching the web for the "Perfect" place. We do not want to buy, we are going to buy an RV and travel there during the winter, since we live in Pa. BRRRRR in the winter. Looking for a 55+ community. Any ideas would be great. I would like to go down just for a short trip in the winter to just see what it is like and look around b/c places can fool you on the internet.
I live near Stoney Brook and have to say I'm extremely partial to the Ft Myers/Estero/Bonita Springs/Naples area. It is a beautiful place and is rather doggy friendly. As Danielle mentioned, we do have a Dog Beach, dog parks and even the newest mall in the area, Coconut Point is doggy friendly.
