(UPDATE) August 13th -- Status just turned over today to review completed, papers sent to Accounting for Check to be cut.  I called and the claim was approved.  I had pretty much convinced myself that they were going to deny it for some reason.   They calculated it pretty much as I expected they would except that they paid for some Glucosamine (Phylox) tablets that the vet sold us at the visit back in May and that surprised me.  Ortho didn't seem impressed by them so we have stopped giving them now.  So, I'm a happy camper and PetPlan is still in my good graces.  We have now saved more than Lucy's premiums have cost us.  While that is good, I would be just as happy if we never have to use it again.

Just curious to know from those who have Pet Plan and have filed claims how long it has taken for the approval process.  I seem to remember that everyone has said that it was very quick.  If you have filed more than one claim did it take longer for the first claim?  We filed the claim for Lucy's surgery on July 20th.  That was a Friday.  It showed up on the website as processed in, initial paperwork complete and if they needed any additional information they would contact me on Monday, July 23rd.  So, as of yesterday that was 3 weeks and they haven't asked me for any additional information.  I called this past Monday and they indicated that they had a lot of July claims and they were taking about 2 weeks and I should hear this week.  I had sent an e-mail last Friday which they finally responded to on Wednesday of this week just saying that the first claim normally takes a little longer because they have to review the full 2 year history.  (which in Lucy's case was less than 2 pages of Vet handwritten notes).  Just curious as to what others experiences have been and if taking longer signals trouble?

Cooper's first claim did take longer than any of his subsequent claims. They did have underwriting review his medical records on his first claim.    Now, I fax the claim in and get a check in about 10 days.   No, I don't think it signals trouble.   They have been a great company for us and pay exactly as stated in the policy.    It probably is just as they stated, a lot of July claims and the need to review her records, but I wouldn't hestitate to call again.

Thanks for all the input.  I've got my fingers crossed.  The waiting is making me crazy.  I started to do the pre-authorization, but just decided it was sort of stupid because it wasn't going to make any difference.  Either they were going to pay or they weren't, regardless it had to be done.  Oh well, I'll just continue to wait.  Will call them again this week.
