Labradoodle & Goldendoodle Forum
I know we have discussed this many times. But FYI here's the scoop on my two as of today. Both doodles are four as of plan renewal in March, although Luca, can it be, will be five later in the month. The premium is $362 for each The rep, who was very nice when I just called, said that the rates depend on the pet's age, area where you live and the breed. So unless you move everything is based on the age of the pet. My two policies increased $40 from last year. I have a gold plan with $200 deductible, 20% copay and $20,000 limit.
When I asked about future increase the rep suggested I get quotes with different birth dates, which I though was an interesting idea. Of course inflation could really change things.

Thanks.
Ok, renewals just came and here is where we are. We have had PetPlan since 2010 for both girls. They will be 5 years old on almost the same day as the renewal, We have the gold plan with a $200 deductible and 100% pay at regular vet (80% specialist). This is per Doodle. (Hopefully I did the math correctly)
2010 $186.92 or $15.57 month
2011 $251.53 or $20.96 month (increased 35%)
2012 $305.84 or $25.48 month (increased 21%)
2013 will be $371.23 or 30.93 month (increased 21%)
For the first 3 years of my policies I have paid $1488.58 to cover both girls. I filed a claim for Lucy's CCL rupture and was reimbursed almost this exact amount. I am currently holding invoices totaling over $2000 for Sophie's Chemo treatments and we aren't even finished with the treatments yet. Additionally, they are reimbursing me for the money that we lost when we had to cancel our condo in Florida for January because of Sophie's Chemo treatments.
The one question that I have sent them an e-mail on is that when I calculate what it would cost me to take out this very same policy on a dog the same age and type as they are today, it is just a little cheaper that what they quoted me. Seems we should be rewarded for being loyal customers. A new policy today wouuld be $358.44 and my renewal was $371.23. Not that much but it seemed odd to me.
For me personally I find it easier if I break it down into monthly payments. When I look at $371 it seems like a lot of money, but when I look at it like $30 a month, it seems like a lot less. Obviously that is all in my head, but I waste $30 a month all the time so it just feels better to look at it that way to me.
This is all good to know. My renewals are coming up, too, for both dogs. I know I will complain about the increase, but you are a good example why everyone should get dog insurance.
That they reimbursed yoou for the condo is remarkable. I'm glad I have Pet Plan
Thank you Sheri for putting this into perspective...I actually pay mine quarterly, usually I forget and I go "what the doodle is this amount in the checking account?"...then when I look there it is. I always feel a sense of relief that I just can't explain.
I did get a response back from them with regard to how come it would be cheaper for someone to take out insurance today on a dog the same age as my dog vs taking out insurance when they are a puppy (no customer loyalty). Their response seemed to make sense to me in that they would (most likely) already have pre-existing conditions that would not be covered. Where when you sign up as a puppy every thing gets covered forever. I guess it is like the older the dog, the less that will actually end up being covered since everything is preexisting. It wasn't that much different, but seemed odd when I first looked at it.
It does make sense.
But not if you want insurance to be helpful. If everything becomes pre-existing, why buy insurance if your dog isn't new and without history? Ned has never had an ear infection so that would be covered unless the vet comment about ear hair makes an exclusion. He has gotten a shot for 'itching' twice in his 5 years of life - guess anything that relates to skin and itching wouldn't be covered. He did have a slab fracture on a back molar so I guess if Clancy lands a punch on his snout, he wouldn't be covered??? LOL
I just signed sophie up last week. I figured she will be a year old in march and In the past year I have had 2 dogs pass away and thier vet bills and after passing care was so expensive plus sophie has been really healthy so far I feel something is coming our way at some point.
