Labradoodle & Goldendoodle Forum
I know we had a discussion about this last year and everyone is aware that the rate goes up each year but I this year they automatically renewed my policy without even asking AND it's $32.00 more than last year. The first hike was only $15.00.
I seem to recall that someone here thought it tapered out a bit the 4th year, anyone remember?
Though I have never had to file a claim (knock on wood) and I have the peace of mind if something ever tragic happened I do have to say the practice of automatically renewing seems a little presumptuous. And I also have an opportunity to switch to VPI through my husbands work and intended to do a comparison before resigning.
I am not a happy camper.

I know what you mean Joanne -- That made me angry as well and that is why I argued with them so much the first year. My Vet is cheaper than any that I know and they told me they were making adjustments because they haven't made them in a long time. I have been in the Vet's office weekly since Sept 24th on Sophie's issues. A couple times I just took urine, one day she spent the whole day, and we have been there 4 weeks in a row for chemo or bloodwork. The only Office call charge I've had was on this past Sunday and that was an off hours charge for the emergency visit. For all of the tests to diagnose and all the treatments so far we are maybe at $1000. I could have gone to the city and I would be well into double digits by now. I'm convinced the care Sophie is getting is better than what she would have gotten in the city, but Pet Plan won't take that into consideration when they calculate us I'm sure. We just get lumped in with Cincinnati area.
Same as my car insurance. The rates are high because, get this, I live in a suburb that has no sidewalks??? Go figure.
Me too, but our insurance went down when we moved here from Orlando!
Do you still go to you old vet? Just because your vet hasn't gone up it doesn't mean that rates in general, even in your area, haven't gone up.
Yes, I do still use the same vet. The vet is a few cities north of my area. The cost of living up there is a tad higher and more populated than my area, but here are some other thoughts concerning area and costs.
Take your area, New Jersey, where I see some of the vet bills coming out of that area that are three times, at least, more than what I pay here in Ohio. But, we basically pay the same premiums per dog. So, the area answer is not valid response. Or certainly does not make sense if you compare Location/Cost variables!
I can't explain that.
Maybe in private I can get this information from you-Premiums. And then try to use it this year when the cost goes up.
Actually, that might be a good discussion where everyone states their premiums and the cost of vaccinations, office visit, just the basic stuff and see where we get on this issue. I'd be interested to know
No secret. But the plans differ. I think mine is about $200 deductible and 80% coverage and it's around $320 a year each.
$200.00 deductable/100% reimbursement. Three year old dog, $253 per year ( although the cost was different by paying in full, 5%internet/first time purchaser) But, this was the first complete year we have had Petplan. Premiums are due again in January.
$200 deductible/90% reimburse/12,000 annual ceiling. Covered as a small mixed-breed (under 22 pounds) This policy just renewed at $253.00 and Tara will be 4 on Dec. 7. Last year was $216.00 (year ending 11/2012).
Here is a discussion I posted when my rates went up and others posted their premiums.

3 year old dog, Silver ($200 deductible, 80% reimbursement, $12,000 annual ceiling)
Year one $165.71
Year two $180.78
Year three $212.34
I can see where this is headed!
Ricki, Daisy is a 70# dog but they never asked me her size at PetPlan, at VPI they did. Oh and Petplan calls her a Goldendoodle and VPI a mixed breed.
