Hi all

Dylan has just developed a little raised pink lump on his the top of his paw, just about where you would imagine his knuckle to be (if he had human fingers).

He's been constantly licking at it. It looks almost like a bite. Just wondered if anyone had any similar experiences. We've got him booked in at the vet tomorrow evening so will find out then but just thought one of you guys might have seen it before?

thanks

I don't know if you have "fox tails" where you live.  Here in California we have them and they are a weed that sprouts in the spring.  It is a sharp arrow shaped wheat grain looking thing that finds it way into ears, noses, between toes and in paws.  Gracie got them in her paw last year and had to have two surgeries to have them removed.  They are very hard to find once they completely enter the body and they travel.  The vet could see the actual holes where they entered and from there they just had to take hemostats and probe and pull.  They found two.  Dylan may just have scraped his knuckle or like you said, a bite.  If you have fox tails or any of those strange barbed type weeds around, bring that to the vets attention.

Thanks Nancie

We're in the UK but what you say does make me wonder because we have been walking Dylan over some fields where there has been a recent crop of what looks like a dry wheat/grain type plant. Its been harvested so its just the dry stubby ends left but it all looks very dry and maybe there are other weeds in amongst it. We have only been going there for the last week or so - and then this lump appears.

Anyway, we'll see what the vet says but I'll mention to them that he has been here.

thanks again
