Labradoodle & Goldendoodle Forum

Well Piper my F1b goldendoodle is now 10 weeks old and about 11 lbs. I have her in a crate that measures 36 long and 25 high. I am using a divider in the crate. Problem is she only is happy when the crate is in a certain place in my living room. Which is dead center on the wall you see when you first walk in. I tried putting the crate on the side of the sofa to hide it a bit and she constantly barked and went potty in her crate which she never does! Lol go figure. I'm thinking she likes the other spot because she has full view of the whole room and can see us better. My question is does she really need such a large crate? 10 weeks and only 11 lbs makes me think she may be on the smaller size? Lol she seems lost in the crate. I would love to have a smaller one in that spot if it would work for her even full grown. What size crates do you use and do you remember the size of your doodle at 10 weeks and what they ended up maxing out at? Thanks for your advice in advance!

Welcome to the love/hate crate club!  We started with a small one-but now he is 54 lbs and home for a long stretch so we have this huge crate for him. He's only in it when we are not home, so the "view" for him of us is not important-it is in front of patio doors so he can see outside.  Thing is it is UGLY and I hate it, but, he is been known to eat pillows when left too long, and so we just ignore the ugly old crate.

You could try a smaller one and just hold on to this one, in case she grows enough to need that much space.

Good luck!  Piper is adorable!

Luca weighed about that and his crate is at least 40 inches. I think a dog needs to be able to stand , turn around etc. when they are full grown. I have a smaller crate upstairs for times when Luca is unhappy with something on TV mostly. If he gets too nutty I can put him in there but although it is probably the size if yours, I wouldn't keep him I there long. It works well for the grand dog when she visits though since she us very small.

Hi Laurie- My  Hanna weighed 10.0 lbs at 10 weeks, and now at 3 years old is a solid 60 lbs. (Her golden retriever mom was 65 lbs, and her standard poodle dad was 50 lbs) Hanna was the runt of her litter.  I bought too small of a kennel to start with, and ended up having to buy another one because she grew out of the first one--wish I had the forethought to do what you did !  How big were her parents?  Doodles love to be the center of attention!!  : )

I would not be getting rid of the larger crate . Enzo was 11 lbs at 10 weeks and now, at 9 mos is 49.5. She is still gaining and the Vet thinks she could be 55-60. Which is exactly where her Breeder put her.

Ro - quick aside. How much was Enzo at 7 months? Do you remember? Thanks!

Got her book right here...@ 7 months she was 42 lbs

Thanks so much!

:)
