Jack just fell off my bed, remember he is only 12 pounds, He was trying to get a toy up on the bed like he always does, he fell and hit his leg on my oxygen  tank or his hip, He scream yelped and then cried for a few minutes. Now he won't walk on it. This is the same leg he got attacked on and it was pulled out of socket. He stopped crying, but now he won't walk on it.

Do I take him to the ER Vet, you know I am so fast to do that. I have to go to a very important doctors appointment tomorrow 2 and half hours away. So if he needs to go, I want to go now, plus if he is in pain I want them to fix him.

What do I do? How do I know

Im so sorry to hear about Jacks fall.  I hope he feels better soon & Stops throwing up.  Maybe your vet would have a suggestion on what he could eat with his pain meds to help curtail his nausea...Maybe they have an anti nausea drug he can take?

I hope that you got a little sleep since your last post & will be able to make your Drs Appt.

J - I am just catching up with DK. I am so sorry to hear that Jack hit the ground just a smidge off and hurt himself. You had a really ruff night and I hope you both are getting a little rest.

I think you are right - take him to your vet for a 2nd opinion if for nothing else, your peace of mind.

I love what you wrote about putting things into perspective. You are so right but at this moment your boy is in pain and you have the right to have a little pity party to worry about him.   It must have been so scary to hear him cry like that. Take the day to snuggle with him. You both will feel better.

Not sure what you decided to do about your MD appointment. If you have to leave him, he will be fine. Seems like you have wonderful friends who will keep him company.

hope you and jack are feeling better with the light of day...we all know how you feel about jack...he's your baby and you're his mama. take care of yourself too
Jennifer, haven't been on DK for 24 hours as I've gone to GA to visit my son and his family so I'm just reading your post.  I'm so sorry to hear about Jack's accident and what you are going through.  I would have been terrified too so I can sympathize with how upset you are.  I pray that Jack starts feeling better and that you are able to endure what you will go through trying to keep him off of his paws.  My heart goes out to you.
Oh my goodness! So glad that you took Jack and that he will be ok. Please also take care of yourself - if you aren't healthy, you can't take care of Jack. You are BOTH important!! (I say this as someone who has a less severe but still chronic illness)

We just got back from our regular vet, that knows Jack and I very well. They called first thing this morning when they had the report faxed to them from the ER. My vet is so sweet, she offered to keep Jack with her for the day because she knows how important my appointment at MUSC is.

I took him in.. He is doing a bit better this am. He went potty outside and stepped on it a little bit. The vet said that he is okay to be home, I have a friend who will be with him in and out most of the day. I put up his old puppy play pen which is really just a baby gate play pen.

They gave him medication for the vomiting, and also gave him some more pain medication. I tried really hard to change my appointments but I would have to wait three months to get in with this specialist. It isn't my regular team I am seeing this is someone to help me with my upper airway and she is top of the line.

I am against everything my heart is telling me to do, going to go to the appointment. I have many friends that can and will check on him, plus the vet said anyone of my friends can bring him back to her which is just about two miles from my house at any time.

He still won't eat or drink anything at all, and if he doesn't drink by the time I get home I will try a few tricks and then bring him back for hydration. There is no apparent reason for his vomiting. None of the medications he was on IV should have caused that and he is not an overly sensitive stressed dog. So we will keep an eye on it. I can tell he feels better, just having his knee cap back in place feels better.

I have to go get ready for my appointments and the long five hour drive round trip. I swear I will sleep well tonight.

I can't thank you enough for your love and support.. It means so much when you are scared to have people encourage you and remind you to stay calm.

Thank you again. I will update later. My friend promised to call me every couple of hours to let me know how he is.

Thank you again and again and again.. Jack thanks you for keeping his mommy calm so he can be calm too.

Love and Hugs

Jennifer and Jack Daniels.

Jennifer, your regular vet seems like a really lovely person and I'm sure that Jack will be just fine while you are gone.  Your friend is also going to support you and keep you posted on Jack so you have every reason to now be calm and go to your very important medical appointment.  As I said earlier your health is paramount and now that Jack is being cared for you must focus on that.  From all the comments you have wonderful friends and I am only sorry that I am on the other side of the world and so, too far to be of any practical use.  I have a positive feeling that everything will be ok and will keep both you and Jack in my thoughts and prayers until this difficult episode is well and truly over.  Very Best Wishes, Nicky

Thinking of you and Jack!

Just so you know, my chihuahua Taquito has sliding kneecaps and when he dislocates one or it gets sore, he stops eating for a day or two.  Also, could it be that Jack is throwing up because he is simply upset?  Taquito is an emotional guy - he threw up this weekend because he was stressed.  he does this a lot. Jack might be picking up on your stress also.  I think he will be better soon :)

Thinking of you today!

I'm glad that Jack is feeling better this morning.  It is so scary when our loved ones are in pain and we're not sure what's wrong.  It sounds like he will be well cared for while you go to your appointment.  I have a feeling that he'll end up sleeping most of the day after such a challenging night... and hopefully you will get to catch up on your sleep once you get home.  BTW Jack is so absolutely adorable... Cocoa sends him a great big hug!
Jennifer...I think you said you took Jack to the ER so I am assuming that is different than his Vet.  Most times they tell you to follow up with your vet.  Whichever, you might want to call and tell them he is not keeping the pain meds down and see if they can change it to something more agreeable.  He is probably crying because every time he pukes it up the meds, they are leaving him and he is not getting the benefits of them and is in pain.  See if they can prescribe something different.  Humans are the same way...not all drugs agree with everyone's system.  Good Luck!
I hope Jack gets better soon and stops throwing up even sooner! Good luck at the Doctors:)
OMD, Jennifer I just got on the board and saw that Jack had a bad fall.  I am glad it is going to be ok, and no surgery is needed.  Poor Baby, he must be so scared, and you too.  But you have to keep that Dr's app't.  so if your friends can't keep watch over Jack, I would take him to the vet and let them keep him till you get back.  that way they can watch him and if he needs fluids they can hydrate him.  It sounds like you have a wonderful vet.  and you are so lucky that they are so near to you.  Anyway hugs to you and Jack, and keep us informed about him, and please let us know how it went for you today at the specialist...Cheryl
