8/23 Thursday Update on Jake:
Jake had a good night and slept all the way through and with none of his earlier symptoms.
I would have updated sooner but I am just back from going to get Baxter.
My mom and 22 year old daughter were taking care of him while I took care of Jake. Apparently Baxter had a rough night last night with diarrhea. Baxter experiencing diarrhea is not unusual but having it all night long is. (of course in my mind I am wondering which sandal of DD's he chewed up but she assures me he didn't and he was not out of her sight) He is on a leash whenever he goes outside at my mom's because of no fence and both mom and DD say they were with him at all times.
Being a puppy he wants to put whatever he can in his mouth and the grosser the better so I am very familiar with what to do when he has it...canned pumpkin, gentle digest, plain yogurt
He has been tested negative for worms but I will be giving them another sample whenever he has another episode. He has been fine since I've had him almost 3 hours now.
Sorry for how long this is....I've been in contact with the vet and they said that they have seen more and more dogs even some that came in today with the same symptoms.
Thank you for asking about Jake....and now Baxter.
Wed 8/22
The doodles and I have been out of town this week about 1-1/2 hours away helping my mom get some stuff done around her house.
Jake has been on an antibiotic for his ear and we were nearing the end of the 10 days and Monday he vomited 2 times....once before breakfast and the other time after he ate his dinner. I called the vet and was told to discontinue the antibiotic and give him pepcid along with rice/chicken/hamburger instead of kibble. Yesterday he seemed fine, no vomiting and was running around playing with Baxter like normal.
This morning (do not read if you have a weak stomach) he woke me up around 6 am moaning and vomited dark, dark bile and some blood clots...I am thinking it was all blood. Went outside and he had bloody diarrhea....
I didn't want to have to put him through the drive home but in the end felt it was best to get him into his regular vet who knows him very well and where he has a long history.
My mom's yard does not have a fence so I don't believe he got into anything because he and Baxter were on a leash at all times. They also usually follow me everywhere around her house so I don't think he ate something inside.
Please keep him in your prayers for those that pray and thoughts...I would be really grateful.
1st Update:
Vet tech just called and they were ready to have me come get him but I asked that they do a blood panel since they had not done one. The vet wanted to just treat him conservatively. He was given a shot to to control the the vomiting and he will have medicine for the diarrhea. Fecal came back negative for worms.
Thank you everyone for your concern...if you have any thoughts on something I might need to ask or do please let me know.
2nd Update:
Jake is home from the vet and is feeling a little better from the Cerenia (shot for vomiting) and the pill Metronidazole for his diarrhea. The in-house CBC/Chemistry17-lipase-amylase/Electrolyte and SNAP cPL Test (canine pancreatitis) all came back within the normal ranges except for 3 but she didn't seem too concerned......
The vet doesn't really have an answer for why this is going on with Jake and mentioned a multitude of possibilities such as......the antibiotic he was taking did something to his stomach???
She has also seen lots of dogs coming in this summer with this same issue, more so then she has ever seen before and has contacted specialists to see if there is some kind of canine virus going around.
One of the things she also was wondering.....is Jake stressed by the puppy??? (Believe me we love our Baxter and so does she) Well that could be so....Baxter is WILD and always jumping on Jake and pulling his ear and tail....anyway something to think about....
Anyway I wish I had some answers. I will keep him on a bland diet, along with the medicine and hope and pray that he will heal from whatever is going on inside of him. He came home and found one of his favorite toys to take outside.Jake and I thank everyone from the bottom of our hearts for all the prayers and well wishes - I am so, so grateful for all of you:) Bless you!

Hope all is well soon!
Hi Colleen, I started to reply in a private message, but ran out of room, since we're not "friends" yet. Anyway . . . I was sharing with you a similar experience that we had with Wally last week. At about one in the morning, he began to vomit, and continued to do so for a dozen more times until we decided at 2:30 a.m. that a trip to the emergency vet was in order. I was sure that he hadn't ingested anything unusual, and he, too, had been taking antibiotics for several weeks. Also, we have a puppy (whose addition to the family didn't seem to be stressing him out very much). His stool was normal, though. The only possible cause that we could come up with was that his dinner the night before had come from a new package. They gave him fluids and a shot to combat the nausea. We went home a couple of hours later, and all got a little more sleep. We fed him a bland diet for a few days and then transitioned back to his regular diet -- but from a new package. He's totally fine now, and we really don't know the cause of the vomiting. I am so glad that Jake seems okay now. We worry about them so much, because we love them so much. Laurie
