Trial Results Promising for Curing Puppies' Parvo
DAVE KOLPACK, Associated Press 1:04 p.m. EDT June 1, 2014
GRAND FORKS, N.D. (AP) - A North Dakota company plans to market a treatment for a highly contagious viral disease that can be life-threatening for dogs.
Grand Forks-based Avianax (ay-vee-AWN'-ihks) is testing its cure for the canine parvovirus in seven states around the country. Results have shown a 90 percent rate among nearly 50 puppies that have been treated.
Some puppies die from the virus and others are euthanized because the medicine needed to treat it can be too expensive and take too long.
Avianax officials hope to start selling the parvoONE antibody-based treatment for $75 a dose by next spring.
The antibody was discovered about 10 years ago when researchers from the University of North Dakota partnered with a South Dakota farm to find a treatment for West Nile virus in geese.

Very encouraging. Parvo is a horrible disease.

Hopefully, this comes to fruition. I've seen the horrible things parvo can do to puppies... this would be wonderful.

This entire article was in our newspaper today.  There are currently eight test sites for treating parvo with it.  They have worked on a way to extract the antibody from goose eggs.  The treatment should be available to vets sometime next spring and will cost about $75 a dose according to the article.  Here is a link to the article:

Hope so!

Driving back from a long weekend today, I stopped at one of those turnpike rest stops to give FInn a break and some water.  Two women with the cutest black lab puppy came walking across the grass.  The conversation went something like this:

Me: Cute puppy! How old is it?

Woman: 7 weeks

Me: That's way too young to be away from his mother to have him walking around here.  Be careful.

Woman: Oh we will be.

Me: No I mean he hasn't had his final shots.

Woman (big smile): Oh yes, he's had his distemper shots.

Me (look of WTD on my face): NO, I'm talking about Parvo.

Woman (still smiling): He can't get Parvo from … (no smile) can he?

Me: Yes absolutely he can!

She scooped up the puppy, thanked me.

The other woman running after her: But where's he going to pee?

Woman: In the car if he has to!

Hope that little guy is ok.  Hope a cure is in the making.

SMH

God must love idiots, He made so many of them.

Ain't it the truth!!!

" Thumbs Up!"
