Labradoodle & Goldendoodle Forum

My son and I have always wanted more than one dog so I am contemplating--merely contemplating--adding either a cavadoodle or a miniature goldendoodle next year. My concern is that both will be significantly smaller than Phoebe and I worry that she will be too rough with the puppy (who will never grow to match her size). I have never owned more than one dog at a time and worry about the dynamic of adding another a lot! While I certainly understand that each dog is different, I do wonder if they intuitively grasp the size difference or am I being totally unrealistic? Thanks in advance.

Yes, they instinctively know that a puppy or smaller dog cannot be played with as roughly as a dog of similar size...now tell the smaller dog not to pick on the larger one! LOL

We have a Mastiff, Doodle and Standard Poodle and the Mastiff is the one that alwyas winds up the butt of jokes, pranks and bullied out of her food.
I suppose there is a slight similarity between children and dogs as my youngest is truly the instigator in almost all that happens with the four children! I am thinking that this second doodle might become a reality for us!
Thanks for all the information. I must admit that I go back and forth on the issue myself. I worry about their interaction, how much more work it will be--not to mention the chaos already existing in my house with four children and a puppy (plus my type A+ personality!). I so love Phoebe and I am blessed to be able to be home with her during the day but I still do not take her everywhere as she is almost 30 pounds and still super-exciteable--it makes being around the children at school very difficult right now. I just love the idea of more than one dog now that I have fallen so deeply in love with her.
Ok I have 2 dogs right now but that doesnt really count because one is very old. At one time I had 2 dogs close in age. They were both small dogs so I had no problem walking them. They played all the time and it got pretty noisy at times. They smelled bad a lot becuase of the saliva exchange - lol! They developed a pack mentality which I hated (both charge at other dogs etc...). When it is just one it is quieter, less smelly, and much more civil! LOL! Also when you have 2 the relatives cringe that you are coming to visiit and bringing the whole fam damily. Not so much with just one. Food for thought...lol.
I lol at the visual of Noah picking up Sherlock by the harness. LOL
We have a 62 pound lab mix, a 52 pound English Springer, and a 27 pound labradoodle. Then there are the cousins - a 78 pound lab puppy and........... Ned, the 27-pounder, and the 78-pound lab pup play and play. So far, not problems.
