I am six months pregnant and the reality of it all is beginning to set in. I am worried that Rags will be needy and/or jealous and I won't be able to give her the attention she needs or is used to. I was thinking of getting a dog walker. Then that makes me feel guilty. Any suggestions?
I think it is in the sense of having DIFFERENT germs than the kind that usually humans get sick from--they won't give you cold sores, colds, or flu. And I remember science experiments in school where kids compared human saliva and doggy saliva in petri dishes and the dog saliva looked "cleaner" in the petri dish. Seriously I don't mind a lick or two, it's just Thule's OCD licking of babies goes over the edge. I think she'll be practicing a lot of down stays =)
Do not beat yourself up! Remember, you are full of hormones, and will think thoughts you never would have before and after your pregnancy! Rags will be great. When I was pregnant, my mind played crazy tricks on me, just don't go there. Take a deep breath. ;-D
There is another DK member who is pregnant and due before me...so I'll write to her and see if she wants to pop in after she's gotten some rest and let you know how doggy is doing. I *think* she only has one dog and so her experience will be closer to yours with one dog.
Adina, do you think that it will be easier for your dogs because they have each other? Dan and I are wanting to add another doodle to our family and we want to do it before we start having kids so Timbow can have someone and also because it will be hard to train one the way we want to with a bunch of little kids running around. :)
Thanks for the video, it made my day. I'm still smiling about it. I can't wait to show my husband, Rags licks his feet too. Babies and dogs, two of the cutest things ever.
We had our first golden way before children. He was our first baby. Before we got too close, I set up the bassinet with the sheets washed in the baby detergent, and opened up baby powder, put the baby cream on my hands, and opened up a package of diapers just so he could get used to the unfamiliar smells of 'baby stuff' before the baby came. I even put a doll in the bassinet and picked it up and held it in front of him too. And good thing we did that early because our first son was born 1 month earlier than expected! Our dog was great with him when he came home!
