I was just at a neighbor's and she gave Wilson this Pressed rawhide bone, just wondering has anyone tried them out ?? Wilson got sick last time he had a rawhide but he seems to be doing okay so far, Does anyone use a specific type is they use the type of bone for chewing.
My Trainer said that raw hide is non digestable. Therefore if it is swallowed it doesn't break down and can cause stomache problems at either end.
She did say that the only type of raw hide that is safe is the pressed raw hide as it is made up of small passable pieces pressed togather at high pressures. When it does break off and they end up swallowing it the peices are small enough that it doesn't cause the disruption of the digestive system. Neely really likes his. He knaws on it like he is jaws in a feeding freinzy. He has never had a problem. When I do see him get a chunck off I usually take it away and leave him with the original piece.
Don't leave it outside. Once it gets wet from rain or absorbs water it swells and becomes soft and too pliable to be a chew toy and is dangerous at that point . Otherwise they last a good long time.
This is just what I was told.
I don't use rawhide either. Simlpy because my dogs do not do well with it, and it is not digestable. I am afraid that they will swallow a piece and it will get caught in their stomach somewhere. They now only chew on Elk's antelers. It does not splinter like hoof, and it does not break off into pieces either.
