It's probably not food allergies, but seasonal allergies. Seasonal allergies are 10 times more common in dogs than food allergies, and this is the time of year for it. (That's why there are currently 3 different discussions about this same issue in the forum, lol). Why doesn't your vet know this? Because GP vets are not experts on allergies. Many of us here have found that a veterinary dermatology specialist is the best resource if your doodle is itching and suffering with allergies.
As for a food recommendation, due to the nature of food allergies, it depends on the individual dog and what his diet has been up to now, because IF (and that's a big if) he does have food allergies, they are going to be something he has been eating on a regular basis for a long time, and that's going to be different in your dog than mine.
