Our Buddy was attacked by a dog last Thursday (July 17) while we out on our normal morning walk. The attacker made a good size puncture wound on his left hip that has internal pockets/lacerations and the vet said she could see the muscle. He's on an antibiotic, a pain pill, and anti-inflammatory meds. Everything seems to be working well since we traded up on the antibiotics that we're upsetting Buddy's appetite. Waiting on the results of the internal swab for evidence of infection.

Today I noticed that a second hole has appeared and the vet we saw this afternoon (not our normal one) said that some of the tissue has most likely died. Wondering if anyone sadly has any experience with puncture wounds and their healing process?

I'm attaching a few pictures of the wound - the one with all the bruising and the actual outline of a fang is a day after the attack happened. The internal pockets pretty much extend the outline of the hairline.... The other wound picture is from this afternoon when the second hole appeared. The second hole is actually inside the "fang" bruise, just taken from a different angle after some healing.

Please excuse me for the iPhone photos. :-)

Isn't that amazing? I bet when JD visits the vet he's a charmer. And those vet visits get expensive, I'm sure. It's the one budget thing we never question, "is it worth it?", bc there's no doubt.... You and JD are very lucky to have each other. :)

Thanks, Jen. He actually has 5 vets (4 specialists plus his regular vet) and sees most of them on a regular basis. They're all crazy about him. :)

That is certainly a big incision. Hopefully that means the damage is all removed and healing can begin. Happy Birthday buddy.
Yeah, I knew it was big bc I talked to the Dr, but DH was shocked. Buddy is 100% better one day after surgery than he was one day after the attack. We are all feeling better today bc of that and Kevin is trying to get his brother to play, so he's picking up on it. :-)

Poor Buddy!! I'm so sorry sweet boy!

I hope he's being a good patient for you. Happy early birthday!

He has been the best patient - except when it's time to get out of the car in the parking lot at the vet's office. But then he sees his Dr and it's love! :-)

Happy Birthday Buddy!  Sending wishes for speedy healing so you can get that cheeseburger and a trip to the beach!  Bailey and I send a big doodle kiss!!

Thank you, Gail! Buddy got his cheeseburger and completely ignored it!? He is doing much better now and I think we should get him a make-up cheeseburger.
Buddy got his stitches out on Friday and his incision looks amazing! He's doing great - walking normal, no pain, and he's not licking.

Thank you for all the well wishes! It has been a stressful 3 weeks and I'm happy that Buddy made it through pretty much unfazed.... And while we were caring for Buddy, Kevin and I were doing CGC class and he passed his test Thursday night. And yes, I did a huge sigh of relief and cried a little bc I was so happy for both of our boys. :-)
