Has anyone read this article from Thursday's The Wall Street Journal? For a Better Party, Rent Puppies Apparently, renting puppies for kids' birthday parties, as well as adult parties, is the new craze. I, personally, think it's crazy. What's your opinion?

Without knowing the details, my first instinct is to agree that this sounds crazy, and not in the best interests of the puppies.
They're puppy mill dogs from pet stores. Here's a website, notice that it's owned by Puppy Paradise, a large pet store chain:

What a shame that WSJ is giving puppy mills and pet stores so much publicity. :(
On the plus side, maybe better for those poor pups to be out with people and kids, being handled and socialized a bit, rather than in their cages in the stores 24/7.

So sad. Great advertising for puppy mills/pet stores.
It saddens me that living creatures are thought of as a commodity. Just think this is another example of how life is cheapened.
Amen, Carol.
Couldn't agree more!
This makes me feel physically ill. How many of these puppies will end up in a kill shelter when they're not puppies anymore?
People are just losing their minds. I guess the kids got bored with the rented bouncy house, so Mom and Dad moved on to puppies.
Yup!
If there is anything positive that might come out of this terrible practice, it is that the puppies will get some much-needed socialization, which is better than living in a cage in a pet store. Wouldn't it be nice if these parents and party-goers spent some time visiting dogs in shelters? Now, there's something the WSJ should encourage.
