I've been researching all afternoon and I'm definitely leaning towards Healthy Paws.  I'm actually now not surprised with what my vet receptionist mentioned (favorite being Nationwide and not liking Healthy Paws) since at the desk they would hear that Healthy Paws doesn't cover office visits.  They would hear that Nationwide with Wellness would cover preventative things but wouldn't realize as much the lower maximums which it sounds like is a staple of Nationwide (they don't advertise anywhere what a maximum is)

I was looking a lot into PetPlan however I don't like their longer waiting periods and I'm very concerned about the huge premium increases that have been discussed on DK.  Obviously no way of knowing if Healthy Paws and others might do something similar but it looks like PetPlan has already burned a lot of people with this.

Such a tough decision as it seems you're married to your insurer for the pets life due to the preexisting conditions.  I'll probably continue researching today and tonight and hopefully pull the trigger tomorrow.

I had a hard time with this decision, too. What finally led me to choose PP over HP was the office visit coverage, the slightly lower premiums, and also the fact that PetPlan's customer service people were easier to talk to, lower pressure, and more transparent than Healthy Paw's. The person I talked to at HP did some double talk about a non-existent "discount" I was supposedly getting.   But I don't think you can really go wrong with either one.
