A lot of these dogs look like doodles, and were described as "large breed poodle mixes".

THIS is why you don't buy a puppy from on-line puppy ad sites like "Next Day Pets" and Puppy Find."

The Michigan dogs are all "Whoodles"- Wheaten terrier/poodle mixes. I am sure both IDOG and DRC would do their best to help if asked, but any of the dogs who are adoptable should get homes pretty quickly regardless of whose care they are in; it's the ones who are not adoptable that may be a problem. :(

The main opponent of the House bill to regulate dog breeders in North Carolina is the American Kennel Club. I was astonished to read that in the paper today.

Sure, because AKC sells "registration papers" for any purebred puppy, even puppy mill puppies. That makes pet store pups look more "legit" to unsuspecting buyers. "Registering" puppy mill litters is a huge source of revenue for the AKC.

A similar case was discovered here in BC a few months ago.  16 dogs; badly neglected golden retrievers, standard poodles and mixes were rescued from a property.  Greed and ignorance are a horrible combination.  I say ignorance because I truly believe that if the people who treat dogs like objects to be multiplied for financial gain can't possibly have any idea what dogs experience physically, mentally and emotionally... otherwise they would not be capable of being so callus.  And I also have to say shame on the human race for dragging its feet on the issue of implementing laws to protect animals  I know that some states (California) and countries (UK) are doing a much better job than others.

Sometimes, when people ask me what kind of dog Yarrow is, I want to make something up because it would break my heart to think someone would want to benefit financially from breeding the gorgeous Bernedoodle mix.  Sure the cost of overhead and time have to be covered, but I believe the breeding should be a labour of love foremost.  What a world we live in.  I'm just too sensitive.
