We took yeti to get groomed yesterday and it appears that he got a little razor burn around his genitals and now he won't stop licking. I know I need to take him to the vet if this continues however I won't be able to until Saturday morning is there anything I can give him or put on it in the meantime?

This happened to my last Poodle, and that's why after that I switched to a groomer who knew how to scissor cut and never let clippers touch her again.

Do you have any cortisone spray, or if not, can you get to a pet supply store to get some? Don;t use any kind of cream or ointment. Any way you could get him to a vet tomorrow? If he keeps licking, he's going to develop a moist dermatitis. (hot spots)

Best thing to use is Neopredef powder, which is probably what the vet will give you.

Im hoping my boyfriend will be able to take him. Unfortunately i work 8-8 tomorrow :(. I just don't know if it is "normal." I always feel like im rushing him to the vet when things aren't really that bad lol. Sometimes he will just be walking and throw himself onto the ground because he has to lick so much. I heard him licking for quite sometime last night in his kennel so of course im panicking.
Thank you so much!

It's very painful. If you google "razor burn dogs" you'll see that it's painful and can quickly lead to infection if it isn't treated. This is not a case of running to the vet for something that doesn;t require it.

Is there a cortisone spray specific for dogs?

Yes, any pet supply store should have it. It's sometimes called "anti-itch" spray. It's much better than creams because it dries fast and won;t rub off. Most of the articles I read on this said not to use human products, but i don;t know how accurate that it. I do know JD once had a very bad reaction when I used human cortisone cream on him. Dog's skin is very different from ours.

I have had no problem with that or with antibiotic cream on my two.

Jack may just be especially sensitive.

Thank you both so much! Im going to get some cortisone spray tomorrow. Im going to call the vet in the morning and try to get in tomorrow but if not definitely saturday! He has been itchy before after a grooming session but not like this :(

I have used cortisone cream and Neosporin on both of my dogs without any issue, but I apply it immediately before we go out for a walk. That way, they can't try to lick it off and it has time to be absorbed (or they forget it's there) before we return. I have also used a human prescription for cortisone lotion (betamethasone valerate), which is in liquid form and neither Wally or Charlotte ever try to lick it off.

I love your idea of taking them for a walk after applying!  I usually just sit with Myla and say "No lick" when she tries but that is an awesome way of taking their mind off of the cream! Thank you :)

If you have cortisone cream I think you could try a little of that. Rub it gently in and stay with Yeti as he falls asleep so he will get some time for it to be absorbed and work before he can lick it off.

Thank you so so much! I will most definitely look into cortisone.
