My pup came from southern California. Breeder recommendations aren't allowed in the forums, but feel free to friend me and send me a message and I'd be happy to share my experience.
If you haven't already done so, please read What to Look for in a Breeder and take it to heart. These are the minimum requirements you should insist upon. If anyone can't match up, look elsewhere.
Personal recommendations are nice, but they don;t really mean much; everyone loves their puppy and therefore thinks their breeder is great. And as for health, most serious health issues don't show up until a dog is at least 2 or 3 years old, so the fact that someone has a cute, healthy puppy from xyz breeder doesn;t mean much, either.
I agree with this wholeheartedly. Ludo's breeder is very prominent in Southern California and was my first introduction to the breed and I never even considered another breeder. I wouldn't trade him for the world, but there definitely were things that, looking back, I should have paid better attention to. For someone who is normally so objective, I wasn't particularly in this case. You're definitely right that there is more to consider than just a cute, healthy puppy.
Elizabeth, join the Southern California group and come to one of our get-togethers and meet lots of doodles and their owners. This way you can see dogs and get information from their owners.
