Ginny, there are many resources you can use to find dogs in need of homes in Illinois.
The DRC website crossposts listings of doodles in need in shelters and rescues throughout North America. You can also use Petfinder.com to check specific areas of the country and you can do a search by breed criteria & other characteristics such as age, size, etc.
Are you looking to help foster/rescue or to adopt a rescue? If you look on our front page you'll see listings of dogs in need fostered either by the DRC or IDOG -- both of these organizations have volunteers sprinkled around the USA.
Type in your zip code and in the dog area, type in Poodle-Mix or Poodle Mix. Usually the medium to large category is best. Many shelters do not know what type of dog they have so they post them this way. Another reason, petfinders does not have a dog type classified as Labradoodle or Goldendoodle. so this is the best way to find dogs of this type.
Be leery of Craigslist. Read on the Doodle Rescue Collective the warnings about these sites. After you read this article then decide if craigslist or your local paper ads will help you.
Thank you for wanting to rescue. You may also want to be a foster family. Both doodle rescues will welcome and support you during this process. I have done this and it is very hard work but very rewarding.
