My LD loves to play fetch, and will play and play and play! We have been thinking that it would be fun to try some more formal retrieval training with him. I have been researching on the internet, but all I can find are Kennel Club associated training clubs. I am thinking that our LD wouldn't really be welcome there!! We wouldn't want to go and compete, just thought the training would be fun, and a good way for him to channel his love of retreiving! Has anyone else tried this? Can you recommend anywhere we can try where doodles would be welcome? (I am in Southern Ontario)
We are doing formal retrieve. I tell you what. Give me a week or so (until all our company goes back home), and I will make a video of Ruger and our formal retrieve training we are doing at home. My DH's first GR was a frisbee champion and DH is all about formal. We are certainly not professionals, but would be happy to share our informal formal way of retrieving! We will also be moving into bird retrieval with Ruger soon. Until I get him used to public, groups of people/dogs, our formal retrieving training time is best spent at home. Funny, yesterday, he was retrieving and having to by pass treats on the ground I scattered that he watched my put out from a 'down/stay'. He did great, but then he wouldn't sit later that evening in a low key situation. Doodles!!! : )
p.s. money is not plentiful for us right now, so anymore outside training will not be possible at this time. So, I use what I already know, read, call friends with bird dogs and ask questions, make notes, and get to it!
