Safety of pond water near a fracking sight.

I have been able to confirm that there will be a fracking site approx 1/4 mile in a direct line from our property to drill site.  We have a good size pond on the back of our property that is upstream from site.  It honeslty had not crossed my mind that there could be a potential harm to Harley if allowed in the water...drinking from the pond  until my son suggested I might check into this.  Aside from the political debate of fracking and the environmental issues,  does anyone have any information that specifically speaks to the safety of streams and ponds surrounding and the site...safe distance...up stream vs down steam....if dangerous, how long after drilling stops should precautions be taken?  Also, I would think the direction of drilling would be considered, not sure how I would find that out.

Thank you for the link Nancy.  What I have read falls on the extremes of either side...I want to make a decision based on facts....I have found sites with a variety of opinions but as you mentioned the agenda behind them is sometimes difficult to see.  I could take the stance of why chance it...but, If I kept evey potential danger at bay, how enjoyable is life?

I don't know much about fracking, but allowing a dog to drink water from any pond is not safe. That's how many diseases are contracted, including leptospirosis and giardia.

Agree Karen...I offer fresh water (he loves it straight from the water hose) prior to allowing him near the pond, but I keep him vaccinated because when he goes in for a swim I can't guarantee he refrains.  Trying to figure out if I need to ban the pond completely.
