Labradoodle & Goldendoodle Forum

You all are the experts here, and many of you have become good Doodle friends.

Penny the WonderDog will turn six in a couple of weeks (yikes!).  She's the joy of our lives. We both work from home and she's been around one of us almost constantly since Day One.

I have often wondered in the past whether it would be good to add another doodle to the family, so that she has a companion.  Now, a doodle puppy has caught our attention (and a little bit of our hearts) and we've been talking about adopting her.

We go back and forth between giving Penny a doodle buddy, and worrying that it might change the wonderful dynamic that we have with Penny now.  Would we just be setting ourselves up for trouble by adding another dog?  We're not worried about the training, as we're both home all the time.  It's the "relationship" stuff that we're thinking about.

If you've added a doodle (especially a PUPPY), how has it worked for you?  Problems?  Challenges?  Are we just out of our minds for thinking of doing this?

I'll attach a picture of Penny (love that she is) and the puppy.

Love you guys,

Michele

Thanks so much, Jennifer.  Yes, now that Penny is 6 years old she's kind of winding down and I think it while it would be a heck of a lot of work, it would be fun having puppy time again.  And I do think it would give Penny a little more action, too.
Yes yes yes, Taquito was 5 and it has given him much more energy and spunk. He looks better and is happier at age 7 than he was at age 5 (pre-Peri).  I think 9x out of 10 it helps the older dog.
Jessie (lab) was 9 years old when we got Jersey and was slowing down. She was sad after Casey our GSPointer died. Jersey brought back a new spring in Jessie step.http://www.dogster.com/video/634190/Jessie_and_jersey_playing_3_wee...
I LOVE having 2.  Mine are only 5 months apart and the best of friends.  I am thankful they have each others canine companionship.  I make sure to favor them both equally and it has worked out really well.    Good Luck!!

Dear Everyone:

My deepest thanks and appreciation to everyone who commented here.  Both DH and I read every one of your comments.  Your insight, input, and support was more than we could have ever asked for.

That said:  WE DID IT!  Gabriella will be coming home to live with us and will be Penny the WonderDog's little sister.  While her name may not stay the same, we know she's going to fit in beautifully with our family.

You just know that photos and videos will be posted hourly as the two dogs meet and get to know one another.

DOODLEKISSES is the BEST!  Thanks again, and much love to you all.

Hugs

Michele

What wonderful news!!!!...Can't wait to see pictures...So exciting....
Thank you!
Lucky Gabby!   You were one of the first person's I met when I came to DK.  Then, as now, I think you are a great dog owner and I can't think of a happy home for the new puppy.   Best Wishes!
Awww... you're so sweet.  I'm blaming this temporary insanity on menopause, but I think it will all work out.  :)
Oh no!  I'm severely menopausal.   Do you think I may get 10 more doodles?
Opps. DH just said he was NOT menopausal and No we would not be getting anymore doodles.   Busted
LOL!  I don't think there's any way a DH can balance out menopause.  But if you get ten more doodles, we may have to call the men in white coats...  :)
