Before I post a picture...which may be a long time because I can't bring myself to take one......does anyone have a picture of a doodle with SHAVED ears and tail???????

I can beat any groomer horror story you've got....promise!  I am so angry I can't begin to put into words what I am feeling without using numerous expletives.  Murphy had some matting on his tail and coat.  He swims quite a bit and they get worse everytime he gets in the water.  He went to the groomer today and I knew she would need to do some repair work on the ears and take his tail down very short.  I was worried about the tail but had accepted it.  I went to pick him up and he is cut exactly like a Schnauzer.  She shaved his ears and tail along with the rest of his body.  Not only are they shaved they are all choppy with some long pieces here and there.  It is the most awful thing I have ever seen.

Did I mention that my sweet Murphy now has SHAVED EARS and Tail??????

All I can do is cry.

I don't want to post a picture because it is so awful.......everyone here is so supportive and I know you would feel like being kind but it is impossible.  There is no way this can be fixed and there isn't a liar on the earth good enough to be kind about it.

I have never seen a doodle with shaved ears....have you?  Anyone?  Got a picture?

I am going to go back to crying and drinking now.

I like a dog with self confidence. You go, Murphy!!

Beasley, Watch out or you could be next!

Ronna, my current foster actually has her ears shaved with a top knot and beard.
Now that looks adorable!  Ronna just needs to take that beard down so Murph looks more like your foster.  I'm afraid there isn't a sober solution to the tail though.
Rona, take this picture with you - it's exactly what you want now.
She looks cute!  She has a lot more hair than Murph but I can see him looking like this in a few weeks......except the tail.
Ronna -- This look with Tina's foster would be a really good look for Murphy if he hates being brushed.  Keeping him this length would enable you to keep him matt free, and all that swimming would be so much better when you didn't have to worry about the matts.  Murphy has a great body shape for being clipped shorter and the face, head and tail at this length would still have him doodley looking.
I think you are right.  There is no keeping my boy out of the water and at least for summer this seems like a good option.  Oh how I wish that boy would let me brush him.  Hopefully if I start from day one with his brother/sister I can have one fur kid with long hair!
You can still work on him tolerating being brushed.  It will also make life easier for the groomer if he is used to being brushed and handled.  Just do tiny sections at a time, with lots of treats!!  Start now while his hair is short with a soft baby brush and work up to a pin brush, and then beyond!!  It will be whole lot less stressful for both of you while his hair is so short and no matts to work through.  Brush, treat, brush, treat, brush treat over and over every night for 10 minutes or so and build  up from there.  My Chase used to be terrible about being brushed and now he just lies down and lets me get on with it!
Thank you for the advice Stella.. That is exactly what I will do.  I am going to get a soft brush and start today. Thanks!

Chris systems makes a wood pin brush that Simon just loves.  Simon will not let me brush him with a metal pin brush, but really enjoys the wooden.

Tina, she's beautiful!
I think so too.  Callie is such a sweetheart and really starting show her doodle personality.
