Those of you with shedding doodles. What were their coats like when they were tiny pups? (Straight, curly, wooly, silky, wiry, hairlike?) Do you have any pics of them as new tiny puppies? I am just curious as to whether their are any tried and true predictors of adult coats in a young puppy. And shedding or not all doods are wonderful. I am just curious how breeders advertise a 3 week old puppy as shedding or non shedding that soon.

LOL, I thought you were joking. It is a stuffed animal that we brought to keep him company in our hotel room.
Yankee is so cute, Peri looks kind of like him. Did he shed at all when he was this age? Peri sheds just a teeny bit.
Never ANY shedding!
Hi Linda! Yankee is a doll! He looks alot like our Banjo at the same age. His coat looks very similar. Banjo is now 14 weeks and has begun to shed.....I wanted to ask you if Yankee had shed at all. Banjo hasn't shed at all til the past 2 days. I actually was a bit worried at 1st thinking it may be something wrong, but see that it is fairly common at this age. We're sure hoping for a non shedding dog...but as I said to my DK...if Banjo turns out to be a shedder...so be it...he's our little shedder and we love him to bits!
Rosco shed from the first week....he was also the curliest of the 4 littermates. BUT he wasn't super curly and his hair was not super silky either. From what I've heard (and it could be off) is that the silky haired and wooly haired doodles are the ones that don't shed. Here are some baby pics:

He's the red one

When breeders talk about a 'fleece' coat they usually mention it is SHINY..though this photo was blurry...his was never shiny.

Here at 7 weeks

Still a pup, fuzzy, but not very shiny. Legs were wirey and flat...rest was fuzzy but not silky.

His shedding as a pup amounted to orange dust bunnies in his crate behind his divider area.
WOW what a cutie! Are you sure he sheds? LOL. See if I was given the picture of that tiny wavy puppy (2nd pic with all the ripples in his fur) I would for sure think that would turn out to be a non shedder. I never heard the shiny theory before, but it makes sense. Abby doesnt shed unless I brush her then there is hair trapped in the brush, but you have seen young puppy pics of her - she was absolutely glossy/shiny and chinchilla soft to feel. She still is bunny soft but not as glossy. Rosco was a beautiful pup!
OH believe me! He sheds. Just the other day on a walk we stopped to talk to a friend wearing black jersey cotton skirt or pants...he left a nice patch of apricot fuzz on her in a few short seconds of getting loved up.

When we would go to Juvie if I brushed him before or brought a brush for the kids to use on him...he'd have barely visible hair flying around every time he shook and you'd feel like you were breathing angel fur. It's light hair, but it's there!

I too thought he wouldn't shed (not that it mattered because I didn't want a curly one!) but his coat is easy to maintain and looks awesome =)
I can see why you chose Rosco. He is outstandlingly handsome. His coloring is very special. Do you think he sheds as much as a lab or does the poodle inhibit some shedding?
Gosh it's so hard to tell because our other two are shedders as well and it all kind of adds up to a TON of hair balls that collect all day long. Probably less than a lab, but if I wanted no shedding I would have been sorely disappointed. I actually chose Rosco solely on temperament as described by his breeder. What I wanted was a cream female...but he was unique looking =)
And now I do think he's the handsomest dog EVER =) I've only seen one other doodle that looked exactly like him (on some breeder's site).

This is Benny on the day we brought him home. His coat is straight and he doesn't have the typical doodle furball look. Now his coat is longer especially at ears, beard and around the neck and more wavy. When he is wet he gets curls.
He is 1 year old now and his shedding got a lot better in the last 2 months. Before he lost more hair than our 2 cats together.
He is absolutely a beautiful dog. I love his shape and face and he's all glossy =) I just LOVE Benny and your photos of him =)
Thanks Adina. When I look back at his puppy pics I cannot believe that he once was this cute baby with huge feet. Does it really matter that he is a shedder when you look at what you get back for it?? And with a good vacuum cleaner it's not that bad hehe
