So the other day, I had to get a brand new brush for Teddy as he got ahold of the brush we had for him and destroyed the handle of it.

So while at PetSuppliesPlus getting his food, I found a brush to try.

I was sitting on the chair and a half with him, he wasn't really wanting to give me anything other than his right side but wasn't fighting me either, and I brushed him out, took about an hour. Whoa to all the hair that came from such a small doodle. Boy am I glad I brushed him though, as we sent him and Molly outside for about 30 minutes for romping time with the kids the next day in the snow and then they got a bath and another brush out and it made that brushing so much easier.

I wish I could have gotten some good pictures because he was the most poofy puppy I've ever seen and it was so cute.

Anyone got any super poofy doodle pics to share?

What type of brush did you get?  It is also important to comb them out because then you are sure to get all the way down to the skin where the matts can form.  Be sure to check out the grooming group for lots of discussions on brushes and combs and doodles looking puffy after a brush-out.

Sometimes I use a tiny bit of  hair product (Moroccan Oil) to calm the puffiness after a brush out.

LOL BG, I love Moroccan Oil and refuse to share it with the Doods.

It is so important to find a good brush that you like and that works well with your doodles coat.  I have a couple of fav. brushes that really do the job :)

My guys are always "puffy" when them get back from the groomer's.  Today is grooming day....I'll get a photo if I can.

Willow was around 6-7 month old in this picture, and this was a day after her visit to a groomer. She turned into a puff ball. It cracks me up every time I see this picture. She also has that "teenager" look at this age with muzzle getting longer and body growing an inch every direction each week (not really, but it felt like it).

He looked puffy like this. We haven't taken him to a groomer yet, as we got him right as the weather got colder so we figured his coat was gonna stay longer for the cold weather anyways.

Would love to know brand, type, and details on these brushes everyone uses. We are ready to purchase a nice brush and want to get a good one. I see people say the love Les Pooch and Chris Christensen, but never more specifically why and which ones!

Personally I think you number one investment is a metal tooth comb with rotating tines.  If I only had one tool in my kit it would be that.

I've never combed our older doodle, her hair is such a tight curl, brushing has always worked and I never tried combing it out. And I don't have one to try for Teddy either. I will have to get one.

check out the grooming group.  There are tons of discussions on brushes and why people like each so you might be able to find some answers to your questions.  But I agree with BG, a good comb is very important.  I have the green LP brush and even with that, I still go back through with the comb to finish out the brushing/combing session.

I haven't tried Les Pooch nor Christ Christensen. Although I get curious about them once in a while, Willow hates brushing and I am not sure I want to invest so much in getting expensive brushes. It's not brush, but it's the running doodle that makes brushing so difficult. :)
I recently found Bass pin brush on a sale price, and I like it. Willow doesn't like being brushed with anything, but she tolerated this the best among her brushes, it does the job, and I like the look of it with wooden handle. FYI, I have another pin brush that doesn't work as well, metal rotating tooth comb (works fine, but Willow mats quite a bit so I need to brush her before I can comb her), and a slicker brush (Safari, works fine, but Willow HATES it with passion).
