Labradoodle & Goldendoodle Forum

Just curious.  My new pup weighed 5.5 lbs at the vet this weekend at 8 weeks old.  Does that mean he'll be tiny?  I was hoping for at least a 30 pound Doodle.  Of course, even after 3 days, I love him to pieces so it really doesn't matter, but just curious.

Dad is Micah, miniature Poodle from Almond Blossom Doodles, and Mom is Katie, English Retriever.  I know Katie is a small retriever, but I have no idea how much each of them weighs.

What did your pups weigh at 8 weeks and what is their adult weight?  Thoughts?

ps I searched to see if this discussion already existed and didn't come up with much.  It seems like it would have already been there so apologies if it has and I just didn't search properly!

You searched the forum discussion, not the groups! It's in the Puppy Madness group.

In response, though, my mini doodle was 6 pounds at 9 weeks. She was malnourished and had a lot of worms, though, so she should have been 8 pounds or so. She's now full grown at 28 pounds.

The truth is, with mixed breeds, there is no telling how he'll grow. I know a mini that was supposed to be under 30 lbs, and turned out to be a medium at around 40 lbs.

Also, I think the 4 month rule usually applies to standards, not minis. My Yetti is a standard, 10 lbs at 9 weeks, now 47 lbs at 8 months, and I imagine she'll be around 55-60 full grown.
