Sleeping positions... Level: Expert

Dogs are experts at sleeping in a variety of different positions... Luna has matured out of puppyhood and has mastered the ability to sleep in almost any position!

I decided it would be fun to name some of the most common sleeping positions (Instead of doing household chores I told myself I'd do this morning!)  

Anyone have more pictures or suggestions for other positions? :)

The Lookout

Sleeping on a raised surface (couch or bed) with the head hanging off the end for maximum visibility.

The Tripping Hazard

In the middle of the stairs (for similar reasons to the Lookout) with paws draped all over, making going up or down the stairs a dangerous proposition.

The Foxball

For maximum comfort, paws are tucked up so they can be used as pillows while the tail warms the nose

The Forced Cuddle

After a human is comfortably situated, dog inserts itself in an awkward place and immediately looks extremely comfortable while the human's comfort is compromised.

The Sleeping Buddy

A toy or other favorite object (or sibling) is tucked under the paw or chin to alleviate loneliness.

The Wedge

Head wedged under, inside or on top of something that looks really awkward.

The Giant Pancake

Flat as a pancake, stretched out to take up as much room as possible.

The Doodle Pose

All four paws in the air, head either hanging off something or completely upside down.

How about the variation of Luna's "Foxball" called Bailey's "Burrito Roll".

Used for maximum warming after a winter bath.

I love that one!  I've tried bundling Luna up after a bath, but she prefers just to dry herself on every available surface by rubbing then sulk on the couch.

Oh this is hysterical!  Luna IS a professional having had a number of years to perfect these poses but Stanlee has made the best of his internship in the hope of becoming a Professional Doodler as soon as possible.  Allow me to illustrate:

Here we have the “Olly-Olly-Oxen-Free” position.  Knowing that he is not permitted to be on the couch, he sprawls on his victim leaving one foot on the ground at all times.  This is the “I’m not touching the couch, mom” at its best.

Next up is the “I Must Sleep With My Brother” pose.  This is when all parties involved know that the current location is not meant for two but they must be together none-the-less.

This is what we call “The Kitchen Blockade”.  This pose may be accomplished by one OR multiple players and usually takes place at breakfast time, lunch time, and dinner time.  However, this pose can be performed at peak hours such as Mom needs a midnight snack time or Hey look, the kids are peeking in the fridge hour.

Single

or Double

Here we have the “I Found The Only Sunny Spot In The House And I’m Not Sharing” pose.  This pose takes place in the first come first served basis and one must be quick to be situated in the optimum location.

Last but not least is the “Hazardous Prone”.  This particular pose MUST be performed by no less than two players and is my least favorite of those submitted.  It’s a bit of a challenge AND a risk all wrapped up in one.  Will they lay still?  Will they move just as I’m stepping over them? Will I be tripped and fall flat on my face?  Who knows!  It a game of roll the dice and go for it!
