My almost 6 month old golden doodle was up last night for HOURS barking up a storm. I took him out several times and was sure there was nothing wrong. I tried to ignore but the barking was incessant and was going to wake up my whole house at 3am. Hoping to avoid another night like this, has never happened before. any tips? THANKS!!!!

Hmmm....I think if it has never happened before, I wouldn't do anything until I knew it was going to be a nightly problem. Something must have been wrong...was there a storm, sudden loud noise, anything different? Good luck and keep us posted.
Weird! My 4 month old did the same thing! I took her out several times and she would stop barking and play. The minute I put her back in her "house" she started up again. She barked pretty much all night! It made me nervous because I know dogs have bark when something is not right! Hopefully she was just being a spoiled brat and nothing else serious.
Is he crated? Where is the crate?
Last week, my Charlotte woke up in the middle of the night and started howling like a wolf. She was on high alert, walking from one window to the other, completely unable to relax and go back to sleep. This has never happened before, and she's three years old. My guess is that there were some deer outside, which she apparently heard and this kept her wide awake and vocal for about 10 minutes before she finally returned to her bed and quieted down. If your little one seemed fine and dandy during the day today, but starts barking and barking again tonight, I would guess that it is nothing health-related.
I'm guessing there was something outside -- a deer or a dog. Something unusual that he could hear but you couldn't. Whatever it is, it's usually gone as soon as it hears a dog bark. Finn sleeps on my bed and he woke up one night and saw himself in the mirror above a chest of drawers. That mirror has been there forever but all of a sudden he thought it was a strange dog in HIS room in the middle of the night. What a goofball. That was a long night lol I wouldn't worry that it's health related if he seems ok during the day.
Full moon? Maybe it affects the dogs as well as some people. There are great shadows in our yard during a full moon.
