Any suggustions? My dog is only a year old. Please Help!!!!!!
Kathy, it's spelled smegma. I have not heard of it being a problem in dogs. Is your dog neutered?
Keeping the hair at the tip of the penis trimmed is important to help keep sticky substances from accumulating there and prevent infections, but it's usually dried urine that is the problem there.
Yes he was neutered before we got him and that was at 8 weeks! I do clean him all the time with baby wipes,I dont want him on my furniture with that! I do have him groomed every3 months for that reason,in fact hes going today! I have always had male dogs i have never seen this before!!!
Thanks for the spelling lesson, and yes Cheech was neutered by 8 weeks so thats ruled out,it seem like when he s excited ,I notice it more. The groomer who also shows dogs never heard of it,.its all new to me.The vet seems to think its common,I wasnt happy with that answer, but he should no!
My older dog had smegma. Yes it is gross and my son's would make sick jokes. My dog lived and peed happily for years. Thank goodness he was not sensitive to my kids cruel jokes or he would have felt bad.
Okay, don't raze me too much on this -- I used to tell my sons it was because Pete did not wear a condom. " See what happens boys." I hope they still think about this one............
You were a mean, mean mama - and oh so smart. Too bad you weren't my boys' favorite aunt - would have worked for them also, but you could have kept the dog!
it usually happens with dogs that do not clean them selfs well. You can wipe the area once a day and when you have him groomed just have them shave that area.
