Theo had his neutering done today and poor Baby Bear isn't handling it well at all! My pet sitter is also the vet tech so she was the one that handled all the surgery stuff and the anesthesia. She said he did really well in surgery and she kept the anesthesia very light so when they were done and taking the tubes out he was already waking up. I went to visit him at lunch to find his face bright silver. They spray him underneath to see if he is licking-he was :(. so I came back at 2:30 to pick him up and she said he was good to go and seemed to have quit the licking.
When we got home though he became obsessed with it to the point where it began bleeding! So off we went back to the vet to get more glue put on to hold the incision together and a Cone of Shame :(
Well-the only cone they had would have fit a St. Bernard, so they found this BiteNot collar that he came back home with. He just isn't a happy boy :(
I gave him a tiny bit of Benadryl-they said it was okay, to help him relax and rest and it seems to have taken effect, or he is just exhausted.
Nothing is ever easy...

so sad, he doesnt look like a happy camper but i'm glad his condition is improving. dislike the vet lady:-( sleep well my friends. xx
Boy he is becoming the spitting image of Luca.
Glad that you stood up for Theo. There is no excuse for the vet's actions, or should I say inaction. And, when did it become the patient's responsibility to provide the "cone". If they aren't going to provide it, they should at least instruct you to bring your own. I hope that you and Theo get a good night's rest and that he is back to normal soon.
Sandy, I'm just getting home (long day) and checking in on you and Theo. I can't believe that vet's first reaction and good for you for setting her straight. She was going to send a sick pup home when there was a small gap in the incision, pus, and the pain meds weren't working! With the excuse "it's his fault!" I, too, think you should talk to Scott. I'm glad for both of you that It looks like Theo is on the mend. I sure hope so and sorry you had to go through all this. Hope you get some rest tonight.
Just catching up here and I can't believe you are going through all of this and that Theo isn't 100% by now. There is something very obviously not right here and I'm now wondering if there is something internal because he just wouldn't be this uncomfortable at this stage. Do they do any internal stitching? I don't know how this operation is performed but if he is not better I would want to have a very strong talk with the vet who performed the operation. Boris came home in a cone, I don't understand them not giving you one or at least asking you to bring one with you on pick up. Poor Theo, poor you and sweet Hattie trying to make it all better ;(
Oh no....I was hoping today would be better. Theo, leave that incision alone. I forbid you from licking it again!! Tell him I said this, Sandy. No one listens to me, but maybe Theo will. For my persistent Miss Fudge, they finally had to wrap her incision and I had a soft cone. Vern didn't even need a cone, and usually boy dogs are easier. I am so sorry you are not finding this to be true. I think I would keep the underwear on him and the cone. Good luck. It has to get better soon.
I'm sorry, but the picture in my head of Hattie pulling his underwear off made me lol! I certainly hope your day improves.
Poor you is right Sandy! I am so sorry you and Theo are going through all this and I wish lived closer so I could help you out in some little way! Hopefully with the new cone he will leave it alone. Pawsitive thoughts for today!
Sandy, It is boy's underwear (I had it wrong) and you turn them backwards, so Theo's tail goes out the opening.
Sandy, It is boy's underwear because they will fit more snugly and the tail goes out the pee hole opening :) I think the onesie is a better idea with Hattie involved. Too bad you didn't film all this going on. Hattie wanted those underwear :)
