Labradoodle & Goldendoodle Forum

Hi Everyone, I took Sophie Bear to her first full grooming today. As per the advice I got in the grooming group, I filled in the 'doodle doo' checklist and brought pictures of doodle styles I like. She decided to do her own thing, well, she sort of talked me into letting her. I've never brought a dog for a grooming before so was insecure about what to ask for. I should know better by now, I always get the best advice on DK, better advice than at the pet store, better than the vet, so why not better than the groomer? What can I say I'm a pushover!

Anyway, despite the fact taht she looks likea bobblehead, I kind of find her cute in a goofy sort of way. Her skinny legs are hilarious. And she's a happy girl so that's all that matters. Now I can take her swimming without worrying about mats, and she'll be so much easier to bath.

I'd really like to know everyone's honest impressions. How would you rate the ob the groomer did, and what would you have done differently?

So here are the before during and after pics :o)

She looks so soft! And like she was going to pee in your purse in the 6th photo. Very Funny.
I like it.  So mad she's going to pee in the purse.  ROFL
She looks so incredible! It would have been nice if the groomer had scissored her legs longer but honestly I think she looks gorgeous. I bet you can't keep your hands off of her silky soft coat.

Bonnie, do you happen to have a picture of what a scissor-legged doodle looks like? I've heard about scissoring, and can sort of picture the difference, but it would be nice to see.

Sherri, Valerie Partynski has posted a discussion about communicating with your groomer and has pictures of doodles she has groomed. They have scissored legs. The leg hair is longer than the body. Sorry I'm not savvy enough to post her pictures here for you. You can search her name and her page will pop up for you to see the grooming photos she posted. Most doodles have scissored legs.
Tori usually gets a scissor cut ONLY This time we did the puppy cut, which at first I thought - Ooo I made a mistake and shouldn't have done that, but I really do like it for the summer. Her head/ears and tail are still long... infact, her eye brows may still be a bit long, but I like to show off her white on her face and I like the hair ON her head to lay flat, or have the "doodle spike" (when it stands up spikey -like) and not poofy or shaved at ALL!. There's pictures of many post grooming visits on my page.
Sophie Bear looks just like Cocoa when she comes home from the groomers!  I think she did a pretty good job- from my experience this cut grows out nicely.  If you want to reduce the bobble-head just spritz the hair on top of her head and on the ears with some water and scrunch the curls back in.  The hair looks so soft- I bet you can't stop petting her!
That's a good suggestion. Thank you!
She came out great....OH SO INCREDIBLY SOFT LOOKING!!!  Chocolate velveteen doodle =)
Thanks Adina. Velveteen Doodle - that would be a cute doodle name.
I think she is adorable, but a bit too groomed for my tastes.  I kind of like scissored, fuller legs.  Her face is terrific. Give her a couple of days though, and that sleek look will fuzz up a bit and she will look scruffier or spritz her and scrunch a bit.
Thanks Nancy! if you have a picture of a scissor-leg doodle can you share it?
