UPDATE- SOPHIE IS GETTING HER SURGERY! AND YOU HELPED DO THIS! THANK YOU ALL!
HOMELESS GD NEEDS OUR HELP!!!!
This beautiful curly 2-yr-old girl is desperately in need of costly cataract surgery to restore her eyesight! She was surrendered to a humane society shelter by her owner, who was unable to care for her. The Humane Society would not adopt her out due to increasing blindness because of operable cataracts, and would not pay for the surgery to restore her sight; Second Chance Animal Rescue pulled her from the kill shelter and is trying to raise money for the surgery. Please take a look- we can give her 14 years of being able to see this wonderful world around her! Any donation in any amount will help; even $5. Thank for looking. (photos also below)

Maybe call it the Sunshine Club. We do something similar to this at the hospital I work at. The donated money in this case goes towards a baby gift (nurses have lots of babies!), flowers and card for a loved one passing and graduation gifts for nurses on our unit.
Anyway, donation done! I hope we hear how she is doing after the surgery.

Hi, guys, just got back from early a.m. vet visit, so not quite awake yet :-)
Lori, I think this is a great idea! I will try to figure out a good way to start a Doodle Kisses "Sunshine Club"- I'll talk to Adina first to make sure she's OK with it, and then we can set up something really eye-catching. (I will need you guys with your photo tricks to help with that!)
In the meantime, let's try to keep Sophie's fund going on the main forum, and I am going to try to contact Second Chance to let them know we're doing this, and maybe get some other info.
Thanks to all of you- you are the best!
I copied Sophie's picture from the site. Look how adorable she is. I love the idea of a Sunshine Club. I have one at work too. I like the idea of knowing who my donation dollars are helping. It's like when groups adopt a family for the holidays. We adopted a Doodle to help.
I just sent a request, to all of my friends in my personal address book, to donate a dollar or two, as a holiday project. I also asked that they forward the request to ALL of their dog-loving friends. If we can get this to go all around the net, and people start to donate a dollar or two each, not only will Sophie be able to get her surgery, but they may have a surplus and be able to start a "Sophie's Fund" to help other rescues with health problems.
Wow Gail! What a great idea! I am going to follow your lead and request the same of my friends...most of whom are animal lovers like all of us here at Doodle Kisses. I love the idea of starting "Sophie's Fund". It could be incorporated into the Sunshine Club idea above!
I called Second Chance today and left a message on their voice mail; being that they are entirely run by volunteers, I expect it may be awhile before anyone can get back to me, but I told them about our little group here and what we are trying to do to help. Hopefully, we will gat an update soon.
What a wonderful group of people on this site! Not that it took this string of comments for me to realize this but when people start opening up their pockets to a "friend" it really shows what amazing people are here. Two things from me:
1) I just donated through Pay Pal to this little girls fund for her eye surgery. My Hudson is licking my hand as I type this in complete agreement with what I am doing. She looks like a complete sweetheart and I wish I lived in Minnesota - I may have made a trip to open up adoption!
2) Sunshine Fund! What a fantastic idea to help a needy Doodle - I love it and completely support this. Count me in.
