Labradoodle & Goldendoodle Forum

We just moved to Southern Oregon and I went by the animal shelter and told them I was interesting in rescuing doodles.  Of course, they very seldom get a doodle, but this week they got two from a home that just left them in a backyard and did not train or care for them.  I need to get a network going in this area for doodle rescue.  My home is not appropriate for fostering now as we need to gate and fence the property.  My dogs (three) are on leash when out of the house or dog run.  I would love to help these two doodles.  I fostered two other Oregon dogs in 2014 with a similar story.  We found homes from Buddy and Scout in California.  Any suggestions?

Lynda, what shelter are they at? Do you have a name or a link?

Josephine County Animal Shelter in Merlin, OR.  Telephone:  (541)474-5458.  Emily and Laura are the contacts and the dog is named Chase.  He is a large white labradoodle.  You can tell them that I am trying to get the word out about him.

I don't see him on their website or their FB page.

He and his "sister" came in this week.  I don't think they have been processed yet.  Grooming is scheduled for this week.  They will release to me as a rescue if I want him, otherwise he will be processed as a regular adoption.

DRC does not have many resources in OR, for some reason. We could use some fosters there. We do have people in WA and in the San Francisco area if transport is available.

Yes, that is why we need to get something started here.  Our home is not appropriate for fostering now but will be in the future.  I will start looking for foster homes and can do home inspections for possible fosters and adoptive homes.  I know they are out there.

Lynda, My daughter's dog is from a breeder up in Silverton, Oregon. If you call Dixie Springer at Springville Labradoodles, she might have an idea of a reputable rescue group or foster family in the area. It's worth a shot, right?

Thanks.  That is just the type of lead that I need to get going.

I tried contacting Dixie Springer in Silverton, but the number listed has been disconnected.  I am trying some other things to get in contact with her.  Yes, it is worth a try.

Got in touch with her.  She is near Salem, but the closest I have found.   She will keep me in mind in case she hears of something that would be a good foster in Oregon.

I'm glad that you were able to connect with Dixie. She was very responsive and helpful when my daughter purchased one of her puppies about seven years ago.

Are these doodles at risk? Do they need rescued? It has been my experience here in Southern Oregon that doodles get adopted very quickly regardless of their backgrounds. Several years ago, the Southern Oregon Humane Society here in Medford rescued numerous doodles (double digits, can't remember exact number). They were all from a backyard breeder/puppy mill situation in Northern California and were untrained and a mess. Regardless, all of the doodles were adopted within a very short period of time.  They are still a very popular "breed" and I think it is rare to see them in a shelter in this area and if they are they get adopted very quickly.
