Starlit has Pica

Why does Starlit eat dirt?   Good grief, she certainly eats A LOT of good food.   She is crazy about going out in the yard to lick and eat dirt.

So, you think she is missing something in her diet?  Some dogs roll in the dirt. I suppose I should be happy. Huh Laurie  :)

I doubt it. Calla has ingested a lot of dirt lately from all her digging. She licks her paws afterward, gets dirt in the water etc. I'm relieved that I've given up on any pesticides or herbicides but that's the only good news. You still feeding Acana. Whatever good food, it should contain all she needs.

Still Acana.  Both my dogs get enough dirty nutrients.  But she seems to always be obsessed with laying on the ground and licking the earth.  Then, when she thinks we are not looking she takes a few good digs and EATS~ (chomp chomp) big chunks. 

We have areas that are more clay than top soil.  This is where she is going

I used to love fingernails and pencil erasers.  I don't know the answer to that question either.

Jackdoodle prays to differ with that statement, Adina. He does not eat anything that is not food, and never has...at least since I've known him; and he is most certainly a dog.

(A superior specimen of dog, perhaps, but dog nonetheless.)

Spud doesn't either. He doesn't chew up the toys or eat plastic or shoes or socks.   Neither does Starlit but she would eat dirt all day.

I've got one dog that only eats food, although with great gusto, and one that eats everything in sight. He has eaten raspberry bushes, blueberry bushes (not just the fruit folks), chair legs, styrofoam toys, wooden toys, plastic plant pots, well everything plastic and wood, fabric!... he sucks on fabric like he's nursing. My daughters bedskirt has multiple holes in it and there is no bedding in his crate! He has eaten a good deal of the dog door. sigh. The list is endless as is his appetite for weird things. As I am typing this he is licking the side table next to me. Arrgh.
