Why does Starlit eat dirt?   Good grief, she certainly eats A LOT of good food.   She is crazy about going out in the yard to lick and eat dirt.

So, you think she is missing something in her diet?  Some dogs roll in the dirt. I suppose I should be happy. Huh Laurie  :)

Yup.
Like that Gosh Awful show on TV, Strange things I eat (or something like that).
Thanks for asking Melody-you are brave!!!
Brave? didn't know people had to be scared of us DKers. But there is always Google :-)
My Murph eats dirt too....but only if there's a yummy earthworm attached to it.
What? Murph gave up on ants?
Nope, he still loves ants, but worms are his favorite.
When we lived in AZ the soil was very hard and clay like.  There was a spot in the yard where all 4 dogs would lick or take bites out of all the time.  I could never get grass to grow there because they were always licking/eating it.  Since we have moved none of them have been eating soil at all, maybe just some minerals that tasted good to them?
Dogs definitely have some different tastes.  I have had to resort to using a muzzle on my older dog when we walk on the trails because he eats everything he sees on the trail.  My younger dog also eats things he encounters on the trails but I have been keeping him on leash and tell him "leave it" whenever he sees something interesting.  They both, however, love kitty poop that is constantly in my native garden (outside the fence) and the vegetable garden (inside the fence). The younger dog chews on everything and I still have to keep everything put up.  His latest has been to eat (chew on) the wall by the bathroom since we had the house fumigated.  I think there is a dead mouse inside the wall.  Lacking something in their diet?  I doubt that.
