Riley went 16 hours the other night and never went potty although we took her out 3 times. I came home at lunch today for a few hours. I took her out twice (it had been 6-7 hours since her last potty) and she wouldn't go. She has developed a preference for going in fluffy deep snow now and since it is melting (horray) this may be part of the problem. But then again, I took her out this morning and she went rather quickly. My husband thinks it is because she is getting older and doesn't need to go out as much. (11 months) I'm a little concerned it may be more than that. Should I be concerned or just assume she'll go when she is ready? Thanks!

Just like a teacher's bladder!  Never could leave the kids in the classroom alone so we just "held it" ! :>)

Lori - Riley does the exact same thing. I rush home all concerned and she has no interest in going out...except to play.

So true, Christy!

I take my 18 month old every 4-5 hours regardless of whether she indicates she has to go (I work from home and by noon I'm ready for a walk myself and I like to make sure she's gone before I start getting dinner ready so I don't get interrupted).  But I read this post and all of the replies yesterday and decided that maybe I didn't need that pre-dinner potty stop so I decided to see what would happen if I skipped it.

Well, my dog has a bladder of....whatever the opposite of steel is.  But the good news is she did let me know she needed out, so at least there's that!

Good girl Dory,  for letting your mom know you needed to go out!  :>)

I think they also establish a routine-and how dare you deviate!  Quincy goes willingly into his crate when I hold up his Kong, but only if I am dressed for work and have just taken him for a quick pee!  Otherwise he stands there and looks at me like:  "Are you nuts, I am not going in there unless you are leaving!"

Quincy and Riley must be related. LOL. I told her to go in there today and she dropped her head like "Seriously? Again?"
