Hey all,

So Ollie and I went hiking today and he was in and out of a lot of brush and trees (we all were). I bathed him. He thought it was a good idea to lay in mud :) Then I went and grabbed dinner. When I got home I noticed while petting him that he has a very very red patch of skin between his ear and mouth...right on his jaw line/neck. I examined it and he didn't turn away or try to get me to stop, but it looks like he got stung or bit by some sort of bug. He did a little whimpering in the car on the way home but nothing too concerning (I just thought he was liking the car less than even normal). I never heard him yelp or anything on the trail...he seemed his happy go lucky self.

Anyways...is there anything I should do? or look out for? It's really red and I just don't want him to have a bad reaction (am I past that point now?)

Thanks in advance. You all are amazing.

Yes, I think a really bad reaction would have occurred almost immediately. I would just leave it alone for now. If you se a sting occur a paste of water and meat tenderizer can help. But be careful, future reactions can be more severe if he becomes allergic. At the least you should have some Benadryl with you.

Thanks F. I used to carry benedryl. This is a good reminder to be more consistent with bringing it. His whimpering seemed out of character but it was so minor that I didn't think much of it. Poor Ollie. Should I give him a benedryl now or just leave him be?

It can't hurt to give him some.

Ya, I went ahead and gave him one. He is now asleep. It seemed itchy. Thanks for the help!
