My doodle has an upset stomach. He pulled a ligament in his knee about 2 weeks ago by running in the deep snow. The vet gave him some pain meds (generic aspirin) but warned that they may upset his stomach. Sure enough they do! I stopped giving him the meds and his stomach settled down. This morning my well-meaning husband gave the dog one of the pain pills because he was limping. Needless to say, Moose has thrown up twice this afternoon/evening. Meanwhile our schedule has been changing over the past week and Moose has stopped eating. I'm not sure if the pain meds and lack of appetite are related or not. The vet wants us to wait another day or 2 to see if Moose starts eating. I can hear his stomach gurgling! Does anyone have any advice about upset stomachs? Is there anything I can do to help him?
The Vet put Porter on "Rimadyl" last week when he did something to a hind leg--was toeing with that leg, no weight on it at all. He thought it might be a torn ACL, but he was walking normally within three days.
I tapered then stopped the meds over the next set of three days because of his desperate push to be active (I wanted to discourage it.)
Now he is back to all activities because I have no willpower when he begs. He jumps a little like a bunny but looks normal otherwise. Am I doing the wrong thing by letting him play again?
The pain med we were given was also an anti-inflammatory. We had not tummy problems with it.

When my dog doesn't want to drink water, I take beef baby food and heavily dilute it with water. She laps it up right away. My vet is big on pumpkin mixed with food to hep upset tummies and poop problems too.
Moose got sick several times last evening and made quite a mess! He slept well and seems to be doing much better today. I checked his gums and pinched his gruff and they didn't seem to show signs of dehydration. Thank you for all of that wonderful information! I gave him lots of ice cubes which he loved. He is drinking more today and he ate his breakfast (kibble) for the fist time in days this morning. Yeah Moose! He is acting fine; wanting to play and cuddle and do everything he normally does. Perhaps his body just cant handle the aspirin. I'm really hoping that he will eat his dinner tonight... if not, I have some rice and chicken for him. Thank you very much for the suggestions about how to get him to eat. I appreciate all of your help!
Rouser had an upset tummy two weeks ago. Our vet put him on chicken and rice (7 cups a day!) and asked that we pick up some Zantac (75 mg) and give him one every 12 hours for 3 days to reduce the acid in his tummy and make it easier for him to eat.
