Hello! We are taking Holly to the vet in the a.m. but I was wanting to get some opinions and feedback here on DK. Has anyone had experience with dark green (almost black) stools, or dark grey, cement-like stools? Holly has been going back and forth between diarrhea and loose stools over the weekend, and every time it seems like they change colors. Every couple will look like a normal color, but today at lunch her stool was grey and looked like wet cement! Last week she had an accident after only being in her kennel for 2-3 hours which has not happened since we first got her, and it didn't seem like diarrhea but was dark green. We are in the process of finding a new vet, so I called one we've never been to and they're going to get her in tomorrow. I've been giving her canned pumpkin with 2 out of 3 meals a day and I was hoping this would pass, but it only seems to be getting worse! As some of you may know, we're in the process of a food trial to determine if she has food allergies, and she's also been showing symptoms of environmental allergies too. I'm just trying to figure out what could be causing these weird colors, thanks for any input! Laci
When Guinness had all of his intestinal problems (prior to the IBS diagnosis) I do remember the Vet asking me if his stools were yellow or gray which could indicate some pancreatic involvement. She also said that if the stools turned very dark (black) I needed to call her because that could indicate bleeding somewhere in the digestive track. I think it's great that Holly will see the Vet tomorrow....you should get your answers then. Every dog is different, so what my Vet said about Guinness may not apply to Holly. Please keep us posted....we've got our fingers & paws crossed that it's something that is easily corrected.
Ditto to hoping this is something easily corrected. I had a foster with giardia, and his stool looked like wet grey cement. I'm glad Holly's seeing the vet tomorrow, hope you'll get an easy answer. Hugs to you both.
Just an update....Holly threw up clear white liquid around 7:30 tonight, we haven't fed her since this morning. I wanted to take her to the vet tonight but my husband wants to wait until tomorrow morning, he says she's acting normal so she's fine. I hat having her not feel well, I hope she's ok! Thanks for the nice comments.
OH NO, LACI !!! I can't believe it! Did her stool change color after the pumpkin? Usually Tori's gets a bit more orangey....I'm sure you must be beside yourself with worry, and this night will probably be long. Trust your intuition. I too, am not completely satisfied with Tori either, but praying she'll improve now. I am thinking of you and sending good thoughts. Hope all goes well tomorrow. I'll be checking in to see how you made out! Fingers (and paws) crossed!!!
