Lucy came back from the groomer with much less hair than expected. She LOVES to be outside, especially in the snow like this am. It is cold ( balmy here in RI at 30-34 compared to the midwest and up north!) It has snowed 2 x this week, which is very unusual. Kids want to put sweaters on her. She didn't mind a vest that didn't tug on her shoulders that they tried.
Question is: at what point would she NEED to be given a sweater? She's a big doodle (70 lbs) but her new cut is super super short like for summer! If she's out, we're walking and/or playing, so I'm guessing she'd be fine. However, she likes to SIT in the SNOW for a long time and watch the squirrels.... usually I just let her out and she comes back when she wants.

Peri doesn't seem to get cold yet! Her hair is about 1 inch long I would say. I am going to get her a cute jacket though because I think she would like it and it would drive DH crazy which is always a plus :)
By the way, I don't think big dogs really "need" them.....unless you see her shivering.
Now my 6 pound chihuahua is another story - he NEEDS it.
Allyson, remeber the Chi that my grandaughter got? He is 3 months old now and 2 3/4 #'s. Here is a pic of his Christmas present I got him. I just had to try it on him. Isn't it cute. He hates to have sweaters etc. on though, but her constantly shivers and does not like to go out when it is cold.
I would love to see a pic of your Chi with his coat on :-)

A DK memember once said, " I like my doodles naked, thank you." This made me laugh. My new foster is so skinny and so cold she shakes in the house and she was miserable on walks. This is the first time I have had to cloth a dog
I have cut my own sweaters up and she looks really silly but I Can tell a big difference in the way she acts. I think they let you know when theyare cold.

Every hear of an old saying, " Put on a sweater. I'M Cold." ? If she can sit outside she is probably alright. It may be you that is cold :)
What a wise DK member!
We have many wise members :)
She was happy when it started to rain later this am... that's when I got cold! But yes, that's mostly true. My daughters are convinced she needs a coat, but not them.

I just came in the door and let the dogs out. When I came in I found myself doing this to my underweight foster doodle. 'Thought you might enjoy. I think it is cold so put a blanket on and warmup :)
True doodle love : ) how cute... thanks mom!
That's how Lucy has spent the last 2 days if she's not eating or playing! So cute!
How adorable!!!! I wouldnt move all day!!!
She looks very snug and happy!
How cute is that! He looks comfy and warm.

I do put a sweater on Charlie when it is cold. When she first got her hair cut short, she was curled up and looked cold, so I got her a sweater.I don't know if she really NEEDS it or not, but she just looks cold to me...
One thing I know is that, at the shelter I volunteered at, some of the short haired dogs will not want to go outside, and refuse to go when it is really cold. Their feet also get cold, and they would lift up their paws because they do not want to touch the freezing ground! We do put coats and sweater on the shelter dogs as well.....
