So, I check petfinder this morning, just like I do every morning, and I find this adorable little guy.
http://www.petfinder.com/petdetail/16548560?rvp=1

I am immediately in love, and fill out the paperwork and email and call the rescue organization.  I am waiting for a reply.  While I am waiting, I look around online for Whoodles.  What size are they, grooming, etc. just so I know exactly what I am getting.  I notice that there is a Whoodle breeder in Bend Oregon, which is where this guy is listed.  Whoodle breeders are few and far between from what I can tell.  So I think, too strange...I bet this breeder knows something about this dog.  So I call him.

Turns out he turned in a 3 month old male pup to a rescue organization last night at 5:30, and Teeky (3 month old male) turns up at 9:45 last night - this is the same dog!  He had turned the pup over because something is wrong with it and it won't keep down food.  Actually, it sounds like he doesn't even get the food down and is regurgitating it back up - not actually throwing it up.  He said he had taken Teeky to the vet, and it was going to be about $1000 to get him fixed, so he turned him over.  He then wanted to sell me a healthy pup which did NOT sit well with me.  He is a BREEDER - breeders do NOT turn pups over to rescues due to health problems!

At any rate, I am waiting for the rescue organization to call me back, and I am VERY curious if they are going to disclose the health problem.  There is no way the pup has even been to see the vet yet with the rescue so I am thinking they were maybe just going to pass him through without disclosing?  I sure hope not!

So....lesson learned.  Check around if you see something on petfinder that seems too good to be true!   Do your homework!

I will let you all know if/when I hear back from the rescue organization.  Maybe they are going to take him to a vet and get him well?  According to the breeder, he may have to have a balloon type procedure done several times to make the esophagus big enough, so this isn't a quick one time fix.  Poor Teeky....I would love to have him, but I need to think about what I am really get in to....

Unfortunately, this is just what some breeders do.
That is sad - keep us posted on what the rescue organization says. Maybe it will be better than you think!
The more I think about this, the more mad I get! The breeder said it was his flight instructor's wife that took the dog to the rescue - so he has money to pay for flight lessons, but can't afford to get the puppy that he bred medical treatment! Scum! That's what he is!!!!
Sick sick sick
I seriously do not get why people are such d-bags when it comes to animals.
I see now he is listed as "adopted."
Interesting....I guess somebody must have had their application in before me. I hope he goes to a good home that will get his throat fixed! That's ok, it wasn't meant to be. :)
The whole thing is suspicious to me. I hope they are getting him help, whoever "adopted" him. Geez.
My thoughts exactly. I wonder if the breeder got him back? I checked, and the breeder is not a member of any organizations or anything that I can find to report him through. Doesn't even appear he does hip checks or any testing on his dogs. He only has a couple of dogs from what I can see, so not a puppy mill, but who really pays $1000 for an untested dog? He told me he ships most of his pups to the east coast. It's sad....really sad.
The strange thing is that he didn't seem to think he did anything wrong by giving the pup to rescue. Why do people think it's ok to just have others pay for the burden they created???? He is obviously not that smart of breeder or he would have never told me what he did.
I was thinking the pup was going to be from a family that changed their minds or something, and almost expected the breeder to want to get it from rescue and rehome it. Boy, was I wrong!
Just another case of a breeder totally in it for the money with no concern for the puppies or the people who buy them. I can only hope that this little cutie has gone to a good home with responsible owners who will love him and do what's necessary for him to have a healthy life. Does he advertise on the Internet? I'm wondering how people learn about him (on the East Coast)? I'm guessing many buyers don't even know to ask about health testing. My brother and my own daughter both bought dogs (a Lab and a Golden) from local breeders, both paying $800, and asking about the health testing of the parents never even crossed their minds. So far both dogs are fine, but who knows about the future. When I told them that Guinness had a five year health guarantee and that both of his parents were tested for several things, they were shocked (they thought it was a "Labradoodle thing").
5 years is a long warranty. Usually they are 2 or 3 years, I think.
Did you email the rescue and tell them what the 'breeder' said about him? Just to make sure that they are aware, if they aren't already.
