Labradoodle & Goldendoodle Forum

Hi everyone,

We live in Maine with our 9 month old Goldendoodle Scout. Scout is a 45 lb female and she sleeps in her crate in the living room.

This will be our first winter with her and I wanted to check with the experts to make sure we are keeping the house warm enough for her.

Prior to getting Scout, we did not heat our living room at night, setting the thermostat to 50 F to conserve energy and only heat our master bedroom. Typically it would be about 54 F in the living room when we woke up in the morning during the week and we didn'tt start heating the living room until about 4 PM so it is in the mid 60s by the time our work days end.

Scout is not outside, not exposed to snow, wind, rain, but just exposed to cool temperatures in the 50s in the home. She has a warm bed in her crate and a blanket to lay on. The crate is covered at night.

I know that I wouldn't be comfortable spending all night at 55 F, but I also know that I am not covered by warm Doodle Fur.

What is the coldest that you keep your home?

Thanks,

Zak

my thermostat is set to about 58 degrees at night but with me and two doodles in the bedroom I think it may not get that cold. The dogs seem perfectly comfortable. a small puppy would need to be kept warmer though. A bigger doodle should be fine I think.

When the outside temps reach into the 60's & 50's, our doodle is very happy.  He hates being warm, hesitates to come outside in the summer if the air conditioning is running.  IMHO a blanket and covered crate at 55 degrees, nothing wrong with that.

Hi, I can only do temperature in Degrees C, but I keep my house cold. Between 10-12C when I am not home and overnight, and 16C when I am home. I worried about the doods beig too cold, so I tried covering my smaller thinner coated boy with a blanket at night. I think it lasted 10 minutes before he had kicked it off!! We still play and go for walks outside in the winter, down to -30C so I think they are both pretty cold tolerant!!! (Obviously, when we go below freezing, they are wearing boots and jackets!).
